@github Software development is a collaborative marathon, not a sprint. Interesting to see visualized contributions shifting over time. What drives these fluctuations?

That's the stupidest measurement ever. Back in the day I'd do 1 or 2 squashed commits with 50 files changed where a junior would do every test method a separate commit and 20 commits in general for some small feature. And now with AI there's no excuse not to make good commits even before MRs. If you can't squash the commits so that whoever later looks at your code can see all the related changes in single place then you are a moron and this metric of who does more commits are for morons.

@github China uses gitee instead. They have ditched American alternatives long ago. Also US lost global hagemony the day Linus Torvalds developed git. Else US would be doing something like:- import numpy as np # pay $50 for EU, $150 to others import pandas as pd #flat $10 etc etc

@github Why is China so low? Are they using other platforms to host their source code?

By Q1 2025: 🇪🇺 EU leads with ~50M pushes 🇺🇸 US right behind with ~47M 🇮🇳 India climbing fast past 12M, overtaking 🇨🇳 China (~11M). Code commits are literally the new GDP charts 📊. Question is: will “innovation economies” be judged more by GitHub graphs than stock markets in the next decade?

@github Sorry but a 💩 metric to use Especially as well, its not hard to automate git commits and pushes making this a completely useless metric.

@github The EU mandates that each push must be limited to one commit, so the regulations are putting a finger on the scale here
