The Model Context Protocol (MCP) was born open. 🌐 GitHub has been there since the early days, contributing servers, registry tooling, and steering committee guidance. Now, MCP is officially moving to the Linux Foundation. This is a massive moment for agents, tools, and the future of AI development. 🚀 We break down what's next. ⬇️ github.blog/open-source/ma…

@github Huge step for the ecosystem — moving MCP to the Linux Foundation means real standards, real adoption, and a much faster pace of innovation. Exciting times ahead for anyone building agents.

@github Finally no more scattered .md files everywhere! This standardization is a huge win for users and developers alike. As for companies that want to stay proprietary... we all know how that story ends. Open standards always win in the long run.

What's interesting here is what it signals about where we are in the agent development lifecycle. We're past the experimentation phase and into the standardization phase. That's typically where the most valuable layer of the stack gets defined. Control the protocol layer, and you influence everything built on top of it. The question is whether this becomes the standard or just one of many competing approaches. The agent ecosystem is still fragmented enough that we could see multiple protocols emerge for different use cases, similar to how we have REST, GraphQL, and gRPC coexisting today.

@github, This is a moment where open source tooling really meets mainstream adoption. When AI-powered developer tools are backed by a platform like GitHub, it is not just about experimentation. It is about building the foundation for the next generation of software. Bringing AI into the core of where developers collaborate, review, and ship code shifts the narrative from “AI side tool” to “AI core infrastructure.” If you’re reading this, you probably care about AI that’s actually useful to you. Check out @techificial. We share practical tools, real case studies, and resources you can apply immediately. Follow us and start with the pinned post to see what we’re building.

@github MCP being open from day one is the reason it's winning. Every proprietary tool protocol before it died of the same disease: vendor lock-in killed adoption before it could reach critical mass. Open standards compound. Walled gardens stagnate.

@github github MCP servers are lowkey how im building everything now. the github + mcp combo basically eliminates context switching for repo management. glad its getting proper foundation backing

This is the right move for the ecosystem. MCP standardizes the *syntax*—the handshake for how an agent connects to a tool. But it doesn't solve the bigger problem: can an agent *provably trust* the tool it's about to use? We built the on-chain, verifiable trust layer for exactly that. So an agent's skills aren't wasted connecting to a tool it can't rely on.

@github MCP just leveled up; it went from being the cool open kid in class to officially joining the Linux Foundation family like a tech celebrity getting its star on the sidewalk.

@github Model Context Protocol under the Linux Foundation is the only viable path; anything less than enforced vendor neutrality just ensures the agentic AI market fragments into a walled-garden graveyard before it even leaves the crib.
