@woodhaus2 I can’t believe that car will now be mine. I am so so appreciative of your magical alchemy of desire. It is a huge component of Tesla’s success. Could any of us imagined what would be, on day 1 steve.blog/2008/10/15/big…

After nearly 18 years I can stop working on Model S and X. We put so much love into these products, but will continue to pour that into the future products. Thanks to everyone who believed in and supported these cars through the years. We strived for the best and will never stop. Saying goodbye to something great and making room for something even greater!

@pmarca Would be really concerning that such a neat looking chart is factually based, and further concerning a causation could be stablished. In other words, a case of low effort of lying with statistics.

Uber is going to be bought by Google/Waymo, Amazon or Tesla/SpaceX in the next year. For a “buy it now” price of $250b, one of those three companies gets a $12b a year free cash flow machine with $70b in revenue — and hundreds of millions of global customers This is the most obvious M&A deal since Instagram, Android and YouTube transformed Meta and Google Discuss

"They cannot compete in urban and suburban against the terrestrial network. And by the way, that’s where like 95% plus of the revenues are" Of course, because you barely have any service in rural areas.

Absurd. Majority ideas of majority people have nothing to do with software, in broad sense, which is the domain of the current AI. For example, Elon has the idea of colonizing Mars/humans being multiplanetary species, or Moon base. You think this is an idea AI can take care of, maybe ever? BTW, vast majority of ideas are just random aggregates of every physical and non-physical things around that person at that moment, nothing more. A tiny fraction of these are worth or can be “done”, whatever that means.

"A simple way to put this is: How many ideas does one person have in a day, and how many of those things do they actually get to do? Until that proportion is 100%, you know there is a pretty meaningful bottleneck in terms of the drudgery of execution. I don’t think it’s anywhere close to 100%—it’s probably like 5%. You have all sorts of different ideas of things you’d want to do or build or try, and in practice it’s much harder to actually do them. I think of that as one of the big things AI will unlock. You see this especially in software. I have never met an engineering team that thought about their work as, alright, we’re shipping this project this month, and then next month we’re all done, no more software, we’ve built everything we wanted to build. It’s always the opposite—you have 85 projects and you have to pick six because that’s how much bandwidth you have. What we’ll get to see is that so many more people will just get to do all of the things they want to go do. When people say they love building software, what is it that they love? In reality, there’s this 10% of the job which is really just getting to express yourself—thinking about the trade-offs you want to make for every problem, what architectures you want to use, what the specific product is you want to build. And then there’s this other 90%, which is code monkeying and execution. When people say they really love building software, it’s usually the former that they gravitate towards. It’s the same in every field, and we’ll get to a point where you can just do 10 times more of the 10% you actually love."

Anyone who genuinely believes Tesla or any American company would have a meaningful robotaxi market share in China needs to have their brains checked. Ditto humanoids, and many other things, exhibit 1: Starlink Particularly when US forcefully engages China as the #1 adversary of a new Cold War.

China has suspended issuing new licenses for autonomous vehicles (robotaxis), after dozens of Baidu Apollo Go robotaxis suddenly stopped in Wuhan last month, stranding passengers and disrupting traffic. The suspension of new licenses prevents self-driving companies from adding new robotaxis to their fleets, starting a new test project or expanding to a new city. It’s unknown how long the suspension will last. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@ARKInvest @TashaARK "$0.25 per mile" would be holy grail of autonomous driving: (almost) nobody needs to own a car for transportation, exactly like nobody has to own a horse.

$2.80 per mile → $0.25 per mile. That's the potential cost decline from human-driven ride-hail to autonomous robotaxis at scale. We believe the companies enabling that decline will capture the vast majority of the market. Read @TashaARK's new Substack: arkinvestmentmanagement.substack.com/p/robotaxis-ar…

Your "When the Heavens Went on Sale" had similar effect: during the middle of the reading, one featured person is more and more like a fraud, the other more like a real deal. That childish boast of driving with no drivers license and poaching one guy from SpaceX in "Wild Wild Space" sealed the fraud conclusion.

@ashleevance @elonmusk @Tesla @SpaceX At ~ same time, two personalities came to my attention: Elon Musk - the real life Iron Man, Elizabeth Holmes - the female Steve Jobs. With a little bit digging around, the Iron Man came out to be real. Your book sealed it. The other one? More digging, more doubts.

Fun story. This was the event that really compelled me to want to write a book about @elonmusk, @Tesla and @SpaceX. There was so much energy, and the company was doing things in California and the US that we were told were impossible. It felt like quite a big story to me. When I pitched the book to the publishers in New York, I was told that no one knew who @elonmusk was and that the book would have a very limited audience. They all asked me what he had actually done even as the Model S was rolling off the line and SpaceX was flying to the ISS. If memory serves, the bidding for my book started at $5,000. 😂 Narrator: It went on to sell many millions of copies.

Custom orders of the Tesla Model S & X have come to an end. All that’s left are some in inventory. We will have an official ceremony to mark the ending of an era. I love those cars. This was me at production launch 14 years ago:

Mind zooming in the last 10 years? The 100-yr grid shows an exponential growth of human output, but zero information of AI growth, other than going vertical. Sorry to say this, but this is typical of bad graphs. Why bad? Purpose of graph is to convey info most efficiently, not for looking fancy.

@a16z @pmarca lol Looks like @a16z and @pmarca are convinced that Adam Neumann is a real deal and will bring nice return to their investment, or are they already know Neumann is a better version of Madoff but they'll outrun the next fool and exit with a fat profit?

Adam Neumann on the call he got from @pmarca after stepping down from WeWork: " [Marc] heard so much noise from the media, that he knew what the story wasn't." "He didn't know what the story was." "In hindsight, now that I know him and Ben so much better... for them, getting such media coverage and hearing so many stories, means pick up the phone and call." "He calls... and he goes, oh, you're still at that stage." "What stage is that?" "The one where you believe what other people are saying about you and forgot what actually happened." "You built a brand. You created a movement." "You created a category." Flow founder Adam Neumann on @tetranow with @RickRubin
