I just found out, that despite already giving trainees the lowest study budget allowance in the UK (£600/year), the Wales study budget also will not cover international flights to attend a conference or course. Simply unbelievable.

From the DDRB report: *PROBLEM*: Hospital physicians in Canada (very comparable health system, GDP per capita country etc) earn 182% more than in the UK *SOLUTION*: give UK consultants and SAS a real-terms pay cut “Independent” pay review body? @wesstreeting 😂😂😂

@DoctorDevify @Tal_Ellenbogen @thomasdolphin RPI was 4.1% (released 21 May) but no way the DDRB could have known that. The DDRB report also uses the CPI measure of prices (which ONS prefers which is why RPI will charge to be more like CPI as soon as ONS are allowed to change it, in 2030)

@Tal_Ellenbogen @thomasdolphin Which month? April 2025 vs April 2024 was +4.1% and didn't they recommend a +4.5%? Can't claim to have read every paragraph. And you'll want to get your RPI terms pay rises in before the index changes in 2030

Overworked, underpaid, and subjected to unnecessary hostility. An NHS doctor was prevented from accessing the ward kitchen for a simple glass of tap water. It’s no surprise so many doctors are leaving for countries where they’re valued, respected, and treated with basic dignity.

@DrHWazir I struggle to believe this story. I have worked in the NHS for 43 years and cannot imagine this being real.

@DrHWazir Did they assume he was a visitor who just walked in? Even so … they seem unnecessarily suspicious & hostile

@DrHWazir I work in an OPD in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. We always make drinks for our consultants, Registrars, Dr’s. If we’re busy, it’s reciprocated. Surely, just help each other out. The patients take priority, but after that, just make the tea if you’re free is the motto.

@DrHWazir I want to take him water/ hot drink and muffins. There ought to be patients associations that take doctors nice things, especially on Bank holiday weekends, when new resident docs are the poorest paid of all hospital employees.

@tillytog01 @HfitzHazel @DrHWazir It’s pretty good. I am always respectful to my team - they are wonderful. I spoke to the lady once 2 months ago when I joined the ward, introduced myself. Never talked to her since. I forgot her name but when I spoke to the manager they already knew who I was referring to 😅

@HfitzHazel @DrHWazir I would be interested to hear what his usual relationship with colleagues is like because it feels like there must be more to this. It’s a bit of a weird thing to do to a member of the team, I’ve never known it in my career. Is it just one problematic person or the whole team?

@HfitzHazel @DrHWazir It a basic human right to have water when thirsty. I really think he needs to report this. He probably has so many better things to do but whoever treated him like this ought to be taught to be human.

@WayoftheRay @PHU_NHS Well done! In Leicester it’s £33 an hour for core and unsocial is £50 an hour for an SHO. Very poor rates :(

Whilst others cut rates and devalue doctors, we've once more negotiated an increase in locum rates ✊🏾 great that @PHU_NHS appreciates the importance of shifts being filled and valuing residents

@abundance202 @MiloKostusiak True but a 4 undergrad in an irrelevant degree surely isn’t relevant to postgrad orthopaedic residency unless I’m misunderstanding what you mean

Merry Christmas to all those working in the NHS Many staff in the NHS are grossly underpaid (even on Christmas day👇) but none more so than Resident Doctors who frequently graduate with >£100k debt RT to support them & ask government to pay them ALL fairly #PayRestoration

@2manypeople4me @ClinOncDoc @gmcuk I paid £25 last year at the start of F1 and £172 for my full reg for F2. Haven't payed any additional retention fee on top of the prior payments. Of course I will pay the fee yearly but my point was it’s not £455 until a few years later. It will be £170/yr for next few years.

@DoctorDevify @ClinOncDoc @gmcuk No, F1s pay £25 to join the provisional-register plus an annual retention fee. They then pay again to join the full register, plus an annual retention fee. They pay a retention fee each and every year. They then pay again to join the Specialist or GP Register when they CCT

Besides the fact that @gmcuk should not be regulating PAs. PAs will pay £320 Drs pay £455 Yet a 1st year PAs earns £10,000 more than a 1st year Dr. Everything in the system is stacked to disincentivise & punish Drs.
GMC@gmcuk

In less than a month we will bring physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) into regulation – a milestone that will help strengthen patient safety and public trust in these professions. You can read our latest letter updating system leaders on progress on our website: gmc-uk.org/news/news-arch… Within it, we shared that: - We’re contacting PAs and AAs on the relevant voluntary registers to let them know the fee they’ll pay when they register with us. We expect the fee to be £320, subject to approval by our Council next month. More information can be found on our website: gmc-uk.org/pa-and-aa-regu… - We’ve been engaging directly with PAs and AAs to help them understand the standards they’ll need to meet when they gain registration with us. - Our future public facing registers will make it easy to identify whether an individual is a doctor, PA, or AA with clear and prominent labelling. - We’re preparing to publish our report on the outcome of our consultation on the proposed rules, standards and guidance for regulating PAs and AAs in December before regulation begins.

@Fat_Jacques @wesstreeting Fake news. The independent review gave doctors avg9% last year. This year the independent review gave doctors avg8.25%. Conservatives were going to top last year with 3 %. Labour are offering 4% so in reality Conservative’s offered 21% over 2 years and Labour 22%. Very similar.

Our NHS is broken and I am determined to fix it - including the front door to the NHS in General Practice. The relationship I want with GPs isn’t simply contractual, but a genuine partnership. In just four weeks, we’ve started walking the talk. My letter to GPs today 👇🏻
