Even before this Iran war started, my energy bills had gone up. Labour promised £300 off our energy bills if they won the general election. Did anybody actually get any money off? Did anybody get their council tax frozen? Labour also promised that too. Labour are liars.

The majority don’t care and haven’t cared for decades about local councillors and what they actually do. Their power to do much locally is small after having been steadily diminished since at least the 1980s. So the sensible way to campaign for a lot has been to have a position on stuff like this to get the votes of people who really don’t care much about the real life job of a councillor but do care about this issue.

Criminals undermining retailers as trading standards collapse. The data revealed that 36 trading standards services reported no criminal prosecutions during the 2023-24 financial year, with some teams having fewer than one member of staff per 100,000 people. retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2025/08/b…

Baroness Fraser shines a light on how those using augmentative and alternative communication devices are often misunderstood and need time to communicate. Not confident in the average GP surgery facilitating a meaningful conversation exploring full range of options.

This goes beyond the desperate circumstances claimed to be the only reasons a woman would abort her fully-formed baby. Doing what feels is going to be best for you is no justification for ending a life.
@

IMPORTANT: The ex-CEO of the UK’s largest abortion provider BPAS tells @Jacob_Rees_Mogg on @GBNEWS that women have the right to abort their own babies right up to birth: “ALL THE TIME it’s in the woman’s body, it has to be subject to what she feels is going to be best for her.”

Have politicians/MPs always been this shit or were they actually quite intelligent and rational pre-2000/2010?

@TWBFarms @Ed_Miliband If everyone was doing this in the UK it would increase co2 output by ~18%, significant increase of particulates in the air, and create issue due to CO, hope you have a working monitor.

People say “the 2 party system doesn’t work” as if both parties have been equally useless. One party smashes the country to bits. Labour comes in and has to rebuild it. It was true after Thatcher. And it’s true again after 14 years of Tory decline.

⚡ The UK now has more than 118,000 public EV chargers. That's nearly double the number of fuel pumps. A few years ago, "where will I charge?" was the question that stopped people switching. Now the answer is almost everywhere. But not quite everywhere yet. There are still parts of the country where reliable, fast charging is hard to find. 🔋 That's what gets us up in the morning. Zapgo focuses on the gaps - the destinations, communities and travel routes that drivers need but the network hasn't reached yet. Every site we open is chosen because it makes a real difference to the people who use it. 📈 The progress is real. But the job isn't finished. And we're not slowing down. ⚡💚 🔗 Read more: fleetworld.co.uk/uk-electric-ch… #zapgocharging #evcharging #electriccars #evinfrastructure #chargingnetwork #ukev #sustainabletravel #chargingahead #evadoption

Edward Heath sacked Powell. Kemi Badenoch defended Timothy on the basis he was defending British values. In this column for Middle East Eye I argue that last week was the defining moment for Badenoch's Tory Party as a cesspit of hatred and bigotry: middleeasteye.net/opinion/nick-t…

My electric tariff falls to 5.5p/kWh overnight in a couple of weeks. The daytime rate is 35p though so I figured a 12kw inverter coupled to a 15kwh battery charged at the overnight price can be used during the day. ROI is 3 years... No brainer surely.

Hard to believe such a simple business with huge demand, low costs and high prices could go bankrupt. My guess is – I haven't looked into it – there was a purchase made using a lot of debt. That's usually what has happened in such cases these days.
Ben Graham@BenGrahamUK

NCP has gone into administration. They’ve been running car parks since 1931, and somehow ended up £305m in debt. Surely the maintenance for a car park is simple: ticket machines, barriers, lights, and occasional cleaning. How can a business model literally based on people paying to park go bankrupt?

@LoftusSteve @hiltonholloway It only makes sense for a new build or if your gas fired system needs replacing. There isn’t the return to cover the cost of doing it to replace a system in good working order. Which is most people. If only we had more renewable electricity so it was cheaper.

It shows that heat pumps are 3.7x more efficient when gas is 4.7x cheaper. So the margin running cost is higher even without the install costs.
Greg Jackson@g__j

Not a study, not a survey - but the actual live data from every @OctopusEnergy Cosy heat pump installed in real homes is now online. And it shows that over 80% of Cosy heat pumps were cheaper to run than a gas boiler over the last year and delivered a COP of 3.7 over the whole year (about 4.3x more efficient than a gas boiler) There’s so much disinformation from fossil fuel lobbyists on heat pumps - and anecdote based on bad installs or out of date tech - but we hear time and time again how much Octopus customer la love their heat pumps. Cosy heat pumps can run as hot as a boiler (70C+), can often be installed with no radiator changes and no new insulation, work with microbore piping, can often retain your old hot water tank if you have one. But so much more - comfort sensors in up to ten rooms, optional remote support and servicing, software updates to literally make your heating better without a visit. Effortlessly working with smart tariffs to save money. British designed, British manufactured and thousands of great British jobs. Helping insulate Brits from the last gas crisis, this gas crisis and more to come. See the data for yourself: octopus.energy/cosy-heat-pump…
