I'm excited because a mentee of mine landed a job this week. After being rejected over 100 applications. Someone finally open the door for him. You need to have the right mindset when it comes to applying for jobs. It's hard to get job when you have no experience. Someone will open the door. You can't give up. No matter how many times he kept getting hit in the ring. He never threw the towel. He kept going. I had to remind him to stay positive. It's easy to give up. Especially when things don't work out for you. This is a person who knew nothing about IT. He started from zero and now knows networking, operating systems, hardware, etc. He has come far from where he started. I had to remind him that he's done a lot and hard work pays off. Happy Friday! #nevergiveup #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #helpdesk #helpdesksupport

It was an honor to speak at @BSidesLondon. Thanks for taking this picture. I talked about my failures and success being in tech. I also talked about my experience working in fast food and NYPD. My talk also mentioned free resources to get hands on training like using Microsoft 200 credit and building an active directory lab to get hands on experience with group policy, password reset, account creation. You can also get office 365 admin for free for 30 days to practice intune, entra id and office 365 admin like exchange, teams, share point. I did mention that being on linkedin and going to conference events is important. I got my last job because I knew someone. I didn't do anything crazy. I network my way into cybersecurity. #itsupport #helpdesk #servicedesk #careers #cybersecurity #informationtechnology #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician

Probably one of my most favorite cmd commands for active directory is net user username /domain This is one of the first commands I learned while working helpdesk. I love this command because I can check when was the password changed and when does it expired. I can also see what groups does marc belong too and if he has a home directory. The real reason why I like this is command is because you can see when a password expires. During my time working Executive IT Support. I would check the Ceo password and make sure that it doesn't expired while he goes on vacation. The worst thing that can happen is that the password expires and the customer can't login to their machine or vpn or anything in general. The only way to login and correct an expired password is if the helpdesk team changes the password. That is the reason why I like this command. Last thing I need is for an executive or a customer password to expired in the middle of vacation or travel. Other awesome commands are ipconfig, ping, net use, gpupdate /force, gpresult /r. What are some of your favorite commands working IT Support/Helpdesk? Happy Wednesday! #itsupport #itsupportspecialist #helpdesk #systemadmin #cyber #desktopsupport #servicedesk #careers #careeradvice #cmd #commands

For those that are new that are following me and want to know more about me. Here's a quick introduction. I worked 12 years in fast food. I was one of the youngest managers to work qdoba. Started out in customer service and did 4 years in the NYPD. I don't have a traditional background where kids normally go to college and graduate with a degree. I took a different route and did my comptia a+ certification. It wasn't easy for me because I don't have an IT background. In fact, I failed the exam twice and I want to quit all together. I was like I don't think this is for me. I actually kick the bucket a few times when trying to understand basics. I eventually didn't give up because of my family support. Passed the exam and landed my job working for the department of education. Slowly moved up to better jobs. I learned a lot and eventually worked IT for Blackstone Group and worked a lot of little financial firms. In life, nothing given to you. However, if you work hard and you have the right support and you surround yourself with positive people. Anything is possible. When I look back at my career when I was new. I felt stupid and I still do because IT is always changing. You can't know everything. Thats physically impossible. Starting from the bottom is a satisfying feeling. This is a hard debate on comptia a+. I had a conversation with someone today about this. Some say that this cert is useless. It's hard for me to say its not useless because a guy I trained recently landed a job because he had the a+. I'm not a fan of the exam and how the questions are worded but its still relevant to the job market. You don't learn things that are helpdesk related like a ticketing system or office 365 but its still being asked in the job market. Hopefully that makes sense. #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #helpdesk #Cyber

@ernestgfx It depends on the company. Some companies have longer complex passwords that expire in 90 days. A lot of people tend to write their passwords on a piece of paper. Best practice is to educate the customer.

Interviewer: Your company forces everyone to change passwords every 30 days. The security team says this is actually making them less secure. Why?

I'm working on a few courses next few months. Some will be free for entry-level folks and some will be pay. I'm trying to create a community where people help each other grow. The goal for me is to create courses that help entry level folks get a solid understanding in learning fundamentals like operating systems, hardware and networking. You can find more information about these courses in skool. Trying to keep everything affordable and helpful for new and advanced techs. Happy learning! #itsupportspecialist #desktopsupport #desktopsupporttechnician #desktopengineer #servicedesk #servicedeskengineer url: skool.com/kevtechitsuppo…
