@KnightEconCA @BestStephenD @MarkJCarney By all means, destroy a functioning system and replace it with another one which is already raising red flags. Kind of like the Phoenix pay disaster (which still doesn't work, 11 years later, causing untold pay issues). A lesson not learned.

"Prime Minister [@MarkJCarney] plans to make it easier to kill off endangered species, pollute waterways and risk human health, all in the name of fast-tracking private-sector development projects." I know many Canadians, perhaps even most, are enamored, even seduced, by Prime Minister Carney. There's a day coming, to be sure, when it will dawn on many that Carney will be seen as one of our worst Prime Ministers. He's methodically dismantling or neglecting much of what makes Canada a special place to live, including Charter rights, environmental protections, freedom of information, and our social programs. thestar.com/politics/polit…

You know how COVID took a bunch of existing trends (wfh, ecommerce, gig delivery apps) and put them on steroids? Even if things "go back" they're never gonna go back all the way.

CHINA ALREADY GOT ITS FIRST WIN FROM THE WAR IN IRAN In today's newsletter, I wrote about how the long term trend of countries reducing their oil imports by substituting them with Chinese tech is already accelerating since the start of the war bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

Democracy is being shut down In Canada requires a bill to pass through legislature Only 7 bill were passed in Canada in 2025 In a typical year 30 to 50 bills will be passed. Each bill requires 40 to 60 expert witnesses to testify. They provide a "sober secound opinion" The media relies on these committees to hear what the country is thinking about the passage of these new bills. Then these same bills enter into the Senate for a secound review of the issues discussed. They hear from witnesses again to get the best perspective possible. I had the opportunity to present many times on the public sector pension plans over the course of about 3 years. I also spoke to parliamentary reviews including, the Senate investigation into CBC There were several committees I spoke to Finance Labour Senate Without this process the public does not hear from these voices and media has nothing to report. This is dangerous when the country shuts down free speech The average House of Commons sits for about 125 to 135 days per year. In 2025 it was 83 sitting days @hollyanndoan @lamphieryeg .@CandiceMalcolm

Spent most of my career talking down the endless stream of unjustified oil market alarm. Now I’m acutely alarmed to the point of disbelief, the oil market is still shockingly sanguine, and I feel like this guy.

What's up with the 80 Million in cash and gold seized by Hungarian Government leaving Ukraine for an unknown destination. They say it somehow involves Carney and if so it would somehow involve Freeland! Red faced and silent isn't a good sign!

@jm_mcgrath Have you seen more new projects getting built in Mississauga vs Toronto? Seems like a natural experiment to see whether a DC cut policy actually delivers more housing.

While Mark Carney still talking about how Canada will seize the opportunity to satisfy India's energy demand with zero plans for action, Donald Trump just announced a huge investment in America, building the first refinery in 50 years with India as a partner. The difference between a talker and a doer.

To the commenter on our website saying that it’s an exaggeration to say the jets at the island airport would be the same size as a Boeing 737, we measured. Now imagine a Boeing 737 landing every few minutes on our waterfront. #NoJetsTO #topoli #onpoli

The energy sector is up about 27% YTD while the s&p 500 is down about 1.5%. This gap will get bigger this week. If your pension was divested from fossil fuels you would literally be working years longer to reach the same retirement financial goals.

@JakeLandauTO With HSR, Island airport should definitely be expanded so passengers within HSR catchment areas can use HSR for flights at Billy Bishop.

With high-speed rail in the future, we don't need to expand the island airport on that same timeline, we need to CLOSE it. Pearson is close enough by the UP Express for anyone who needs to fly, and for trips to Ottawa/Montréal people will no longer need to fly at all.
Steve Paikin@spaikin

.@fordnation speaking to @TorontoRBOT says 70% of Torontonians want @BBishopAirport to extend its runways. “We need bigger jets landing there,” he says. Mayor @oliviachow is here and he admits she may not love this idea “but let’s discuss”. #onpoli
