The majority of Ontarians will never use Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Let’s be honest it’s mostly used by privileged, wealthy people like Doug Ford and frequent business travellers. So why should everyday Ontarians be paying billions in tax dollars for this when our public healthcare system is collapsing and public education is being underfunded? That money should be going into hospitals, nurses, doctors, classrooms, and students not another convenience project for the wealthy.

@radiogirl985 The Federal government controls 2 out of the 3 signatories of the island airport tripartite agreement. They hold all the cards and can use that leverage to make the other parties to the agreement behave.

Under Canadian Constitution, a provincial govt holds absolute authority over municipal govts. Even though the federal govt holds superior leverage in this case, it is constrained by the constitution. Hence, it cannot dictate negotiation terms.

Some MPs are saying the feds can’t force the province to respect the city’s wishes on the island airport. We disagree. The Feds are signatories to the tripartite agreement & can tell the province they won’t negotiate any changes to the agreement if Toronto is removed. #topoli
