Theodore Roosevelt drank roughly a "gallon of coffee a day"
Accounts from family members, staff, and contemporaries paint Theodore Roosevelt as a prodigious coffee drinker, consuming staggering amounts throughout the day—often from a cup so large it was jokingly compared to a bathtub.
Roosevelt’s days were relentless. He woke early, exercised hard, read constantly, and packed his schedule with meetings, correspondence, and nonstop decision-making. Coffee wasn’t a casual pleasure; it was fuel, helping sustain his breakneck pace long before modern stimulants or structured workdays existed. White House visitors frequently remarked on both the strength and sheer volume of the coffee served during his presidency.
His appetite extended far beyond caffeine. Roosevelt was known for hearty meals, booming conversation, and near-constant engagement with those around him. He approached food, drink, and politics with the same philosophy he applied to life—boldly, energetically, and without restraint.
While stories of him drinking a full gallon a day are likely exaggerated through retelling, there’s little doubt he consumed far more coffee than most. It became part of his legend, reinforcing the image of a president who lived at full throttle. As Roosevelt himself famously joked, he liked his coffee “strong enough to float a horseshoe,” a line echoed by many who experienced his famously potent brews firsthand.

@usmntonly No one is spending half a billion in franchise fees if there's even a microscopic chance that they would get relegated a year later. They would never ever recoup their money in revenue or when they sell.
Peter Vermes, former USMNT forward and longtime Sporting KC coach, who was was elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013, gave a blunt answer when asked about promotion and relegation in Major League Soccer.
“Explain to me how you would go to an owner, who spent $500 million for a franchise fee and another $500 million into a stadium, another $100 million into a training facility, and another $50 million on players."
“So let's say he's at $1.2 billion in debt. And what you're gonna tell him is a year from now, he can be relegated to the second division? How do you do that? You can't do it."
"Sometimes we just have to be willing to accept who we are. Our country and the sports industry is based on playoffs. That's who we are.”

@runyon_will@OptaSTATS Ted Williams won two triple crowns and was the last man to hit .400, and he didn't win MVP any of those three seasons. A Yankee won all three times.
@OptaSTATS Since the BBWAA began awarding the MVP in 1931, Aaron Judge would have been the only MLB player to hit 50+ homers while winning the batting title and not win MVP.
@OptaSTATS The last guy to hit .400 didn't win MVP that year either. He also won the triple crown in 1942 and 1947 and didn't win MVP. Like this year, all those guys who won MVPs played for the same team.
@NateSilver538 The special kicking ball should be eliminated. What other sport changes the nature of the ball like that? Football is changing for worse the same way technology is making golf courses obsolete.
I've got a bit of a magnum opus for you on how the NFL is changing into almost a completely different sport. And why we're getting so many weird, high-scoring games. The number of 55+ yard field goals has increased by 3x since just 2022, for instance.

@vanexel31@Travonne No player will blame his shoes when they have endorsement deals in play. It takes someone like a retired player to speak the truth.
@Travonne I really believe it’s a part of it. Been saying it for years. It’s been happening to much over the past 5-7 yrs and all players are wearing lows. I don’t even know how you hoop in lows.
There have been Achilles tears throughout the years but my thoughts on them is that they happen more now and I think it has something to do with them dam lows the players wear nowadays. Cover them ankles up fellas.
@Randooo423850@vanexel31@Reggie_FBK He was being a smartass. Have you ever seen or worn a pair of converse? They are the least supportive shoes athletically of them all. Might as well be hooping in a pair of vans
Adam Silver wants to know why @NBA ratings are down..... probably cus you locally blocked a Bucks vs Pacers PLAYOFF GAME on NBA TV for everyone that lives within 300 miles of those teams. I live in Indiana and can't even watch the game on live tv cus it's blacked out.
@franfraschilla@Suns Dumb question: why shouldn't Gillespie be allowed to go back to college and make more money to play? What other job restricts you to 4 years? Does amatuerism really exist anymore?
I am guessing there are 500 D-1 players that will make than the @Suns Collin Gillespie’s 578K salary this year. One of the best college guards of last decade. This fact along is indicative of a broken system that won’t sustain itself long-term. Where are the administrative “adults in room” who can help fix this? Gone.
Of course, I should recreate the Lady and the Tramp photo. Thank you to Brandon McCreary and Lucah Gassmann of GI Rugby, who are serving spaghetti tonight until 7 p.m. Stay after the dinner for the All-Island Jazz Concert.

The Grand Island Rugby Club will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on March 26 in the GIHS cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Should I resurrect the Lady and the Tramp photo?

@CBSSports When he puts his left hand under the ball, he has discontinued his dribble. His right foot was on the floor, making that his pivot foot. He lifted it and put it back down. Travel.
@CBSSports Not only is there is no gather step in college basketball, there is nothing in the travel rule that says two steps. The rule is you can lift your pivot foot when you jump to shoot or pass.
@TheHoopCentral He turns three times with the ball in a chin-it position. The first turn is perfectly legal because it's in concert with his body in his space. His second and third turns are "thrown" to clear out space and are fouls imo.
