I was one of the readers who got the book I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES. I recommended it but wrote you could imagine Scorsese and Oliver Stone having totally different angles on the material. The feature film take wasn't immediately clear. It sold to Paramount.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

Paramount Pictures passed on The Irishman as the ballooning budget, driven by costly de-aging VFX, was seen as too big a risk. Netflix stepped in, backing the $160M production and turning it into one of Martin Scorsese’s most expensive films.

@TheCinesthetic Paramount bought the book rights for Scorsese and paid for script and project development. They ultimately passed on financing the film, which would have cost over $200 million after advertising and awards promotion with a theatrical release.

@ElliscbIV I think you mixed up TX and OH there. They might have only voted 3% apart on Kamala but their history of voting for D's is far more recent. Also a lot more infrastructure because of Brown's 2024 run.

@ColeSandick Post-Trump, all negative campaigning is an inoculation opportunity. Get voters bored of the bad stuff. There is nothing Mills has that Republicans won't have in the fall so let her unload the cannons.v

@RealPizzaGamer My argument isnt that the president needs to be a podcast bro. Its that we'll never get a Kamala elected if performative masculinity dudes don't see some D's out there they can identify with. Just got a show there are a few on the team. Our best one went crazy unfortunately

@EricMGarcia It's great there are so many terrific women. THERE. ARE. NO. MEN. FOR. BROS. TO. LOOK. UP. TO. IN. THE. PARTY. Or in media. I dont care if women make up 70% of who we elect, without some blue collar bros with a high profile, the party will continue to struggle with branding.

@RealPizzaGamer Kelly is great. He's 62 and appealing to MSNBC Democrats. It's cool he went to space. He's a segment guy. Not sure he'd know how to hang on a podcast for several hours. Also missing touch of "reckless" quality that personifies male movie stars, B.Clinton, Biden, GWB, Trump.

@TasticFlap @speechboy71 thanks to algorithms (and Israel) young people have spent 3 years watching footage of maimed and dead children--several times per day. Older people/elected officials don't see that. These young people are traumatized. It's no longer a normal issue to them.

@speechboy71 None of it matters if Dems can't figure out a way forward on Israel. It's THE wedge issue of all wedge issues and it's only getting worse

@EricMGarcia The party and its barely existent media apparatus are full of soft, thoughtful, intelligent men. Great. That's who I want writing laws. We will continue to lose until we stack the team with a few Fettermans and Platners (examples of types, not the individuals necessarily).

The same night Kamala Harris lost, a Jewish woman won a Senate seat in Michigan and a lesbian won re-election in Wisconsin. You know who lost re-election, the old white Catholic guy in Pennsylvania named Bob Casey.
Zachary Donnini@ZacharyDonnini

Out of the Top 9 best Democratic candidates in remotely competitive 2024 U.S. House races, NONE of them were White men. We need to put to bed the idea that only White men can win elections for Democrats, the data just doesn’t support it at all.

@electionsjoe Going back to swiftboating, this is a continuation of "Republicans lie and we will correct the record. We will respond immediately with truth!" It does not work. I do appreciate them putting together a video of anything, as D's have virtually no industrial pipeline of content.

@WalshFreedom D's are stuck. Younger people are traumatized from watching horrific images of children mangled by war. Algorithms deliver images around the clock for three years and still do. It changed them. This is not an "issue" that can be negotiated normally anymore.

@Variety Who's the customer exactly? Sounds like two totally different products. One is a script development tool (which largely would be paid for by unrepresented screenwriters still learning the craft), the other is production info that would only be helpful after packaging.

Quilty, a new AI platform designed to help the entertainment industry make smarter financial and creative decisions, has launched: • The platform offers script analysis, packaging suggestions and production planning tools • Users will receive data on comparable projects, talent, tax incentives in potential shooting locations, the festival scene and the distribution landscape • The technology will also offer crystal ball predictions about how a movie will do at the box office, as well as its cultural resonance “We can tell you the peak time to make and release a film,” says co-founder Daniel Wood says. “We want to empower the creator.” variety.com/2026/film/news…

@Super70sSports RT is lazy about compiling reviews on older movies. Also, most of the reviews were for local papers/magazines that never got online or if they did, shut down before RT became a big thing. This movie is well remembered tho because it appealed to kids and played endlessly on HBO.

The Toy is rated 3% fresh by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. I say no movie that stars Jackie Gleason and Richard Pryor can possibly be bad, you snobby film school motherfuckers.

@DaniellaMazzio I just recorded a podcast on how Friedkin revisited the themes here in his first music video, Self Control. In Cruising, he asks if identity shifts through experience/environment. In the music video, Friedkin suggests identity doesn't exist at all.

@ZacharyDonnini The Democratic party has a complete absence of prominent men with certain traits that appeal to rural, blue collar men. They don't exist in media speaking on behalf of the party. It has created a branding crisis over past 16 years. We need at least a few.

@ed_dems Because there's nobody to take his place. People don't trip over each other for that job--it sucks. You really have to want to do it. And the few names who would normally challenge him are looking at Presidential runs in 28.

@chopinc33 @_iamblakeley I guess that's why she won in Michigan as a Democrat the same year Trump beat Kamala. That's what they want.

@_iamblakeley It always pisses me off to hear a Republican say, “It doesn’t matter if you are a Republican.” Slotkin loves the Republican side, but claims Democrat. So many in the Democratic Party like Slotkin!? Slotkin has always has been transparent Republican lying to herself.

@juanitojaramil @_iamblakeley @BenjaminPDixon @krystalball Yeah. And then she went back to being a Senator because she won her seat the same year Trump beat Kamala in Michigan, and Krystal went back to making lots of $$ off telling an audience exactly what they wanted to hear. Everyone wins.

@_iamblakeley She somehow won Michigan the same year Trump won and Kamala lost. She represented a Trump district in the house and won there too. if you disagree with her, next step is to ask: what does she see that I dont--and what is she hearing from the voters on that issue?"
