Do the guys get paid for the overtime work? Or it is free labor for the employer?
Toby Pohlen@TobyPhln

At 1:30 a.m. PT on November 3, 2023 Elon sent a message to the xAI group chat saying that we need to go “extremely hardcore” for the next 36 hours; Grok will be released publicly tomorrow. You didn’t have to be in the exclusive company chat to get the message; it was also posted publicly at the same time: x.com/i/status/17203… What unfolded over the next day and a half was one of the best examples of engineering at pace that I’ve ever seen. All we had when we started was a somewhat fine-tuned base model and a half-baked UI. Our team of ten split up the tasks: curate data, improve the model, implement the raw prompting and RAG service, build the production infra. I took care of the latter. At 8:51 p.m. PT the next day, we announced Grok to the world with a long-form post on X (x.com/xai/status/172…). Over the past 36 hours, we came up with Fun mode (including Grok’s sunglasses), finished the whole production system, and most importantly tuned the RAG system that gave it real-time knowledge of the world through the X platform (a first in the industry). A day and a half of straight coding and shipping; no drugs, not even caffeine, just pure adrenaline. Elon gave us a mission and we delivered. The launch went very well. We invited a couple hundred X creators and Grok’s ability to roast accounts went viral. It was the first time a publicly accessible AI was allowed to poke fun at people. This episode is a prime example of what you can achieve by going extremely hardcore: you move and deliver results faster than any outsider could have anticipated. Within 36 hours, we took the company from silence to relevance. It was well worth it. xAI’s hardcore culture is infamous on X. I love the tent meme that suggests we all sleep (well, slept in my case) in the office in tents. Our reputation precedes us and even new joiners hit the ground grinding hard. However, unless you understand the “why,” you are at risk of simply replicating the “how” without achieving the same results. You need to grind with purpose and the purpose is to move fast towards a known goal. When the goal and the means of reaching it are crystal clear, a small, skilled, and highly motivated team can outcompete companies old and new, big and small. Never grind to show off; never work late to be seen; never sacrifice without cause. There is no medal for the one who tried extremely hard but failed. There is only a medal for the winner. If all your efforts lead nowhere, you’re arguably not very productive. Always keep your eyes firmly on the goal, do everything to reach it as quickly as possible, and make sure you're on track to win. A hardcore engineering culture is one of the most effective ways of accelerating real progress. Watch out for performative sacrifice and don’t confuse pain with progress.

If women had been in power for centuries, men would likely have had no rights, freedom, protection, or provision. Privilege would be limited to highly attractive men, while average men would be disposable unless closely related. Even the value of male life could be questioned. This highlights a deeper reason patriarchy existed: civilization requires sacrifice, risk, and responsibility. A gender that prioritizes comfort and freedom over duty cannot sustain a stable civilization. Look at the birth rates, marriages rates, and civilization currently? It all start going down as soon as women became more comfortable and free and don’t need to rely on men for survival.

What opinion about women do you have that makes people feel like this?

This doesn't work for normal men and I'm going to explain why: What Tom Holland is doing here is called "counter-signalling." This works by demonstrating that you have so much surplus social status that you can get away with breaking social norms and expectations. For example: at most jobs everyone wears a suit or uniform to work and shows up at 8 AM...except for the owner of the company who shows up at noon wearing a t-shirt and jeans. The owner can do that because, as the owner, he has so much influence and status within the company that he can break the dresscode amd show up late and still get away with it. The regular employees can't do this, if they ever even tried it they would get fired. The same goes with the video below. Tom Holland can do it because he's a millionaire actor who plays spiderman, and Zendaya loves it because it's a display of the fact that he has so much social status that he can do this stuff and get away with it. If a regular man tried this on a first date (or even a 1pth date) it would look completely cringy. Being able to pull this off is a result of Tom Holland having enormous social status, it isn't the reason he has that status. It like the company owner: he doesn't own the company because he wears tshirts and shows up late, he wears tshirts and shows up late because he owns the company. Telling young men to aspire to do drag to get a girl gets the causation exactly backwards— Tom Holland isn't famous cause he can pull this off, he cannpull this off because he is rich and famous. This won't work for normal men because they don't have the social status to pull this off; confidence and "security" are irrelevant. I can have the security and confidence to show up late to work wearing a t-shirt instead of my suit or uniform; but if I do that I'll still get fired. The same thing applies here. How much status you have and the social position you occupy play a big role in determining how the signals you send get interpreted. A regular woman talking to a regular guy is going to have very different opinion of him if he shows up in drag than she does of the famous actor does over the top performative drag on a TV show. Telling young men that secure masculinity looks like doing drag performances is like telling people trying to get a promotion at work that they should wear t-shirts and show up late. It doesn't work that way.
Ginger Tucci@Ginger_Tucci

I will never not see this and not immediately watch it. One of the most secure masculinity performances I have ever seen. And you KNOW when zendaya clocks how insanely into him she is.

xai former employee has to step down after revealing the roadmap for macrohard, basically creating a 'human emulator' that does everything. basically, jobs are gone and xai competitors now know their roadmap. 'we get a full human emulator we can put to work' near the end he even calls that the roadmap isn't public and continues haha, i love it.

@dmoonlives @MyronGainesX it's does look weird to male brain. But I think female brain works differently. In order to live with a man who loves you, it requires the woman to respect and submit to her husband. They don't like that. With stranger you don't have to do that, so they prefer that.

Isnt it amazing that the more progress women make, and more freedom they have, the more they regress to doing what they have always done... Be hoes. Live for free with a husband that loves you? NOPE! Live with a stranger and have sex with them for shelter? YUP! Yay feminism!

Dating datas doesn't show that Assortative mating is still the norm. Hypergamy is diverse behaviour. In fact, hypergamy had reduced It was mainly incentivised by Patriarchal or paternal control of marriage. Many men due to porn and liberalism and their default fallen nature mixed in with utilitarian culture, don't even see women as equal to them. They see most of them as holes to cum into. So, the women who do engage with it, many do think that they might as well only sleep casually with men above their station, but what's fascinating is that isn't even happening on the ground. By age 25 95% of men have had sex. And men internationally have more sexual partners in their lifetime than women. I haven't ignored anything, I've studied it and i unfortunately promoted some of this nonsense in the past.

@DrewPavlou When you sleep with 4 dogs and blame claw marks on demons instead of them, two things are possible. 1. You’re doing a bit to see how dumb your audience is for fun. 2. You have a mental disorder that doesn’t allow you to see what’s obvious to everyone else in the world.

I know this is complete bullshit because I have never had a C-level describe what they think they need to store and that be almost anywheres near what they actually need to store You will spend two weeks implementing what they said and then the next 3 months rebuilding it slowly as you find out everything they told you was wrong and this is the norm

@bitfalls @Will_Panic @ImSh4yy The problem is they don't know the requirements yet, and customer needs constantly evolve. That's why database design takes so long—it's never about coding speed, but getting requirements and analysis right.
