SUIT OR JACKET? Is Zelenskyy wearing a suit here, or is it just a jacket? Today's @qrcoindotfun auction winner placed an interesting bid to drive attention to a controversial outcome on @Polymarket. The bet was about whether Zelenskyy would wear a suit before July. Several media outlets from @nypost to @BBCNews have referred to the outfit pictured below, which Zelenskyy donned for this week's NATO summit in The Netherlands, as a suit. So now those who bet "Yes" are saying the bet should be resolved as such. And yet, the bet on Polymarket has yet to be resolved as a "Yes", despite multiple proposed outcomes, each of which have been "Disputed". We were unfamiliar with the mechanics of how Polymarket bets get resolved prior to today's auction, and we're still not experts by any means, but apparently this is not the first time a bet related to Ukraine has been debated on the platform. There was previously a controversy earlier this year regarding a bet about a potential Ukraine-U.S. mineral deal in which the bet was resolved as "yes" before there was an official agreement. Polymarket acknowledged the premature resolution but defended the platform's voting process, which relies upon @UMAprotocol and has been argued vulnerable to manipulation by UMA whales with enough power to sway the vote. We have a ton of respect for Polymarket as a source of truth, an incredible demonstration of the power of prediction markets, and a net positive for the world overall. We appreciate that it is hard for any project to be perfect, and while this bet is far from the most consequential which Polymarket has hosted, it does seem deserving of some attention to determine if there is any manipulation at play.
