I am sad, ashamed, but not surprised by the poll claiming that most Israelis support the Trump plan to remove the Palestinian population from Gaza. Both Israelis and Palestinians have become dehumanized. My mission is to rehumanize the Israelis, and to patiently await for my Palestinian counterparts to rehumanize the Palestinians too. At this point, the word “rehumanize” doesn’t even exist. Let’s begin by inventing it.

I am currently in a cab on my way back to Jerusalem from a TV interview. My driver only does this on the side; his primary business is… a sex shop. Every few minutes he’ll get a call from a couple consulting with him on what to buy as they peruse the store in his absence; he lets clients in remotely and relies on the honor system (and CCTV). In between calls, he’s been telling me about the store, what he’s learned about men and women’s sexual habits, what the war has been like for business, and so on – until we’re interrupted by yet another call. This is the funniest cab ride I’ve ever had.
