Pope Leo sent a video message to those gathered at DePaul University in the U.S. to mark the 15th anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty in the State of Illinois. In the message, he stressed that the Church continues to affirm “that the dignity of the person is not lost even after very serious crimes are committed.”

A couple things. First, when he says we respect life from conception to natural death, THAT is the doctrine of the Church. It’s then his opinion (not dogma) that capital punishment is wrong. As a Catholic, you’re not required to agree with the Pope’s political or pastoral opinions. Pope Francis also held this opinion so it’s not new. I actually agree with him on that though, because the error rate in death sentence convictions in the U.S. is too high and has resulted in too many innocent people being unjustly put to death. It’s a different concept for evangelicals/Prots, but the Pope can’t unilaterally change church doctrine the way pastors can in Prot churches. It’s certainly frustrating when a Pope is politically liberal, but just like Obama couldn’t unilaterally change the Constitution when he was president and we didn’t reject the Constitution because he was president, likewise with the Pope, thank the Lord the dogmas of the Catholic Church were in the beginning, are now, and ever will be unchangeable by humans.

The proper response from Donald Trump to these Virginia shenanigans is to announce that the retrocession of Arlington and Alexandria to Virginia was unconstitutional and that they are and always will be part of the federal district

Transgender attorney begs for a female police officer after getting tackled to the ground before being jailed for contempt. Oklahoma attorney Rob Hopkins was caught on camera arguing with the judge. “I’m a transgender attorney practicing all over the state!” The argument continued to escalate before the judge called in officers who then took Hopkins to the ground. Hopkins was heard screaming “I can’t breathe” and begging for a female officer. Hopkins was reportedly held on a $25,000 bond.

Not opposed to voter ID laws, just stupid voter ID laws. The SAVE Act is insane.
