The moderates essentially always get policy moving toward them under the filibuster, majority or minority; whereas it would always be moving away from them under majoritarianism. They accept less overall policy as the trade-off for this.

Senate moderates love the filibuster because it makes them players in the minority and shields them from blame in the majority; to kill it is to neuter them in the minority and put all the pressure on them in the majority. QED.

The question is not whether focusing on affordability is a winning issue now - it seems it is. The debate is over the solutions. #BERNIE

The Crystal Ball website had a nice table showing the imprecise relationship between gubernatorial results in NJ and VA and the following midterms - certainly these states are not consistent "bellwethers", particularly as they've turned bluer.

Spent much of my weekly politics luncheon today reminding students that arguably the most significant vote today is on California's Prop 50 (which polling suggests will pass.) #Prop50 #Election2025

@DilanianMSNBC x.com/C__Herridge/st… Somebody has a bad source.
Catherine Herridge@C__Herridge

NEW REPORTING: @Comey I understand the indictment was ready to go.   I am told "all the evidence was there," not a “shaky" criminal case as characterized some media reporting. Critics of former US Attorney Erik Siebert allege he was "blocking" or "slow walking" the charges. Interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan removed the blocks Key Factor: @FBIDirectorKash declassified FBI leak investigations codenamed "Arctic Haze" 👇 scribd.com/document/90165… •Revealed Comey's role authorizing media leaks (at least one involved classified information) through his FBI subordinates or through his Columbia law school professor Richman with SGE (Special Government Employee) status. This is old news if you follow me and subscribe! catherineherridgereports.com/subscribe Thank you for supporting independent journalism with impact!

What I am hearing from DoJ sources: The Comey indictment is among the worst abuses in DOJ history. Shocking. It’s hard to overstate how a big a moment this is.

In my professional opinion as a political scientist, very few votes in the 2026 elections will be based on the policy positions of the NYC Democratic mayoral candidate

@marcorubio's testimony that the @StateDept "was no longer at the center of American foreign policy. It had often been replaced by the National Security Council" was not exactly revealing state secrets. #StateDept #Rubio

Is America an oligarchy? Bernie and AOC say yes, touring the country to “Fight Oligarchy.” Other Democratic leaders aren’t so sure. With the debate heating up, I wanted to share a few insights from our new paper on who’s funding American politics. 🧵 cup.org/4cfm0Az

@MarcBodnick I use it for every new president (not that the media pays any attention) but of course it's lifted from Neustadt's undergraduate course.

@MattDickinson44 This sounds like a rationalization for Trump’s extraordinary first 100 days

A reminder that the 100-Day metric for presidential accomplishments is based on an extraordinary period in American history that has no relevance to modern presidents under normal circumstances. As currently used, it is simply an artificial media contrivance. #100days

@OKnox makes two great points re: the media in his very well received @Middlebury talk on Tuesday: the media must be more transparent in how it covers stories (inc. less reliance on anonymous sources) and it needs to acknowledge mistakes. Wise words from an experienced reporter.
