Scoop: unreleased Nielsen data will turn the “streaming defeats old school TV” narrative on its head. Feb numbers will show the biggest swing away from streaming in the history of the firm’s monthly report. It’s a dramatic change with a big asterisk. wsj.com/cmo-today/dela…

Most commentary treats Democratic primary voters as one blob. They’re not. There are four distinct groups of Dem primary voters, and one is now the swing bloc. We built a simple typology to explain:

hard to imagine you writing this while biden was in power. this is like an ode to big government. i found it somewhat sad in the actual movie oppenheimer that the thoughtful genius lost control of his technology... even if yeah obviously the government needed to decide what to do with the bomb. Trump is not Truman.

this was the most important Oscar speech of the night tbh "Mr. Nobody Against Putin is about how you lose your country. What we saw when working with this footage is that you lose it through countless small, little acts of complicity: when we act complicit when a government murders people on the streets of our major cities, when we don't say anything when oligarchs take over the media and control how we can produce it and consume it, we all face a moral choice. But luckily even a nobody is more powerful than you think."

Texas is literally the most insane depressing multicultural disaster. Corpus Christi sold it's municipal water supply to an Exxon-Saudi petrochemical partnership because they believed they could build desalination plants they saw in israel. Then some mexican communist organized a NIMBY movement to prevent the desalination plants, which was successful. Now the entire region is about to enter a catastrophic drought.

@MarcBodnick The tech will surely eliminate a large number of roles. Question is whether it will follow the pattern of previous general purpose technologies and facilitate a similar number of new uses for human labor

Fears that AI will cause mass unemployment are reasonable. But there are also good reasons to think the laptop class will be fine. I wrote about 4 of them. The first: 3+ years after ChatGPT, there's still scant evidence of mass labor displacement vox.com/the-highlight/…

@EricLevitz I don't know what the near-term means re: # of years, and there's plenty of structural/incentives friction that may slow things down (eg attorneys get paid by billable hours), but the power of AI to eliminate repetitive work is mindblowing.

@MarcBodnick yeah -- I'm agnostic on what's going to happen, in part for that reason. Just laying out the case for thinking disemployment effects will not be severe in the near term

As a developer dealing with very sensitive data, I’m very concerned about a company that is not opposed to mass surveillance as it raises questions around the data I provide them. Given what we’ve seen in the past few years it’s harder to trust what many say while I have no ability to audit their systems.

@obrien @MikeIsaac Maybe if OpenAI goes down the Tesla path with persistent actions that the public hates, this will become an issue. But this one thing won't matter IMHO.

@MarcBodnick @MikeIsaac They've mainly been focused on consumer, so...it certainly can't be good. They were already losing the enterprise and developers to Anthropic. Even if this is marginal, it's certainly not the right direction when you're crapping out $900 trillion of Capex.
