During a training session last week on ad copy I was reminded of one of my biggest pet peeves - anecdotes 'We know that our customers love x' - But how? Where has this come from? Anecdotally myself - 90% of the time this is historical BS and should always be challenged #PPCChat

@PPC_Fraser @AustinPPC_ unfortunately i think that (search console longtails -> ppc) is going to become a thing of the past. If those keywords aren't getting significantly searched, google won't show them (tag them as low volume ineligible). when google doesn't show them, they'll get auto-paused.

Call me a cynic but I still hate broad match. I've tried, I've really tried and for sure, it's way better than the old trash can fire that it used to be, but that's hardly an indicator of improvement... #PPCChat

@PPCGreg @AustinPPC_ I cry. My one new favourite keyword gold mine is using regex to find longtails from Search console and then adding these in to existing campaigns - but as for BM, I think I'm going to have to part ways with it.

@PPC_Fraser @AustinPPC_ broad match for us is a daily battle field. they'll be some good new keywords that pop up (and we add as exact) but otherwise we have to stay on top of negatives or they snowball. + anytime we add broad our % of spend going towards "other search terms" balloons.

@AustinPPC_ I'm trying really hard to forget what it used to be but when you hop in to search queries and see what's appearing (alongside the quality of 'close variants') it pushes me further away..

@PPC_Fraser I still don't get the appeal for lead gen. Yes, you can add negatives to make it better, but you're going to waste a ton of money on bad clicks before you do. Might as well start with exact match & expand on what works

@Digital_Liam I think its happening to an extent but masked under the old 'close variants' banner. These for me are in numerous cases not aligned with original queries and in turn are driving costs for lower relevance queries.
