I have read 17 Crichton novels so far.
And the basic structure goes likes this.
1. Intro that sets up the theme and real world aspects and slowly blends it with the fiction.
2. First half is all set up
3. Second half is non stop fucking action
4. The book just ends

The only reason people have a problem with this is because the AK is in so many pieces of media and as such is iconic. This isn’t the only time they’ve included a gun with few changes.
Mando carries a straight up FP45. The T21 is basically just a Lewis gun without the magazine.
