FIFA and US Soccer picked Country Roads as a post-match celebration song for the USMNT after consulting with players. The track has resonated with US football fans. The aim was to find songs that were representative of American artists and would also be crowd singalongs. Along with Country Roads, Living On A Prayer, Sweet Caroline and Take Me Home were shortlisted.  England already used Sweet Caroline, so Country Roads and Living On A Prayer were selected. Former US Soccer employee and FIFA executive Amy Hopfinger made the final call on using Country Roads.🎶

This campaign against Alexi has nothing to do with his on-air work but the perception of Americans talking ⚽️. 🇺🇸 is suppose to defer to rest of 🌍, even during a World Cup being held here.

All of the theories of why Americans don't like soccer like other sports such as not enough constant action, they need commercial breaks, too low scoring, etc. are all wrong. There's one reason that explains it all. America just developed its sporting culture around other sports.

The World Cup is basically the last global sports event that America hasn’t won. We’ve got the World Series. We’ve got the Super Bowl. There’s only one trophy left
