if you're interested in a liiiiittle bit of heads up going in (which IMO helps temper expectations in a positive way for this book) --
what i'd wish i'd been told beforehand: this is a grandiose sociological story, as opposed to a character-driven plot payoff story
it's more political intrigue and empire-building, and it's seeped in the author's historical context, human desire, colonialism, sociology, ecology, psychadelic experiences, and religion

really hope i'm wrong but i can see a future where sports betting and hyper-aggressive prediction markets become so prevalent and grow so large that we run into some tail event where e.g. a professional athlete gets k*lled, and by then it will be far too late to turn back

Even if your rental properties do outperform the market (unlikely), when you include the "return on hassle", it's not even close.
The cost of your time, dealing with tenants, etc., is far higher than a few percentage points a year.

Millennials are the elite generation because they cranked out 12-page essays the night before they were due. No ChatGPT. No Claude. Just lo-fi beats playing in the background, Black coffee at midnight, footnotes that were somehow correct, and pure delusion. Grade was an A minus. Period.
