The Europeans are not dealing with “a man.” They are dealing with the United States of America. The United States needed the most innocuous kind of cooperation from them. They denied the United States that cooperation. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. We are not going to forget, and we’re not going to forgive. I’m indifferent to their excuses or their rationalizations. The United States of America needed their help and not very much help. But Trump includes those bases as part of their military spending & thinks that is part of the NATO budget cuz he's stupid.

This chart shows the contributions to the "common fund", which is what runs the NATO organization. In other words, administrative personnel, buildings, etc. It doesn't fund a military. Each country brings its military assets and investment to the "alliance table." So yes, the U.S. accounts for 65% of all NATO defense spending combined, which is what counts. Hence, the 2% of GDP was a big issue. It's what each country spends on its military to actually bring something to the table, and many countries are not meeting these obligations.

Just as they go to settle for the night, we shoot off fireworks sending em in panic. It can affect people like veterans that have PTSD. Even domesticated animals get terrified of fireworks.

Europe has long imposed tariffs on the U.S., while we have also had the privilege of providing their national security, with 65% of all NATO Defense spending coming from the U.S. It doesn't end there. When we called an Article 5 after getting hit on our homeland, we still carried a disproportionate burden by deploying 4-5X the troops, and we lost 100x the next closest nation in KIAs. During this time, the U.S. had 1.5 million active-duty personnel, and the rest of NATO had 2 million active-duty personnel. So, how does that math workout to an "equal" alliance. IT DOESN'T! I've engaged with a lot of Europeans the last two weeks on X, it's clear by their statements, they believe NATO serves them, it's in their statements and they don't even realize it. They are in amazing denial of how disproportion the contributes have been. It makes me want to get out of NATO even more than before.
