Great to see Church Street named in this list of Guardian readers’ favourite independent shopping streets. Pleased to have played a part in the pedestrianisation that has seen it go from strength to strength. theguardian.com/travel/2022/no…

@LBRUT Shows almost nothing in any of the LBRUT parks, apart from *some* of the cafes. Don't you think it's time we caught up with civilised world and provided drinking water fountains?

With the hot weather set to continue, make sure you know where you can refill your water bottle 🚰 Why not use one of our water fountains located in our parks? Find your nearest refill spot here ➡️️ crowd.in/WsUiaY #BeattheHeat

@Charlie_Hicks_ Good piece and well put. I appreciate that 'the idea of an LTN' is different to saying I want one on my neighbouring street but these are important numbers and show people want safe spaces and less traffic. Where can I find this report please?

@0jhl The cost comes from the enforcement, so I would say you can't then discount the income from that same enforcement. But, yes, perverse and regressive to charge a bicycle in a hangar but an electric SUV worth multiple £10ks is free or next to nothing

@grattan cool thanks, I'm open to other analysis or research on this. Although does that mean the cost is correct but boroughs are covering the subsidised resident permit by other means? eg short term parking. It's £0 to park an electric car in some boroughs, defs not covering the cost.

I know secure cycle hangars don't come for free. But neither does car parking. The annual cost to an Inner London council to operate a parking space is ~£336. Think about staffing a parking department, traffic wardens, signs, fixing potholes... 1/3

@0jhl I agree with the general argument, but that cost is wrong. A quick look at the data, CfL take the cost of managing all parking, but do not offset the income from short-term parking and enforcement, which brings most boroughs into a (narrow) profit.

Surely there is a way to redistribute costs better to improve traffic and lower emissions...

And you don't pay anything to park this diesel SUV crossover, or other band A cars.

Love the #ThisIsAwkward campaign! In Richmond we have a waiting list of over 700 people for bike hangars - they simply can't be rolled-out fast enough.

Another week, another awkward billboard goes up in Islington 👀 From closets to kitchens, #Londoners have been sharing pics of the weird places they keep their bikes due to lack of cycle parking. HUGE thanks to everyone who's shared so far. Keep 'em coming using #ThisIsAwkward
