It's unfortunate and ironic to pit families against each other given that action against #carspreading is actually about stopping kids from being hurt. Polling shows London parents are rightly concerned that bigger cars make it more dangerous for children to walk and cycle.

Sadiq Khan's latest plans for a tax on larger vehicles in London is just a family car tax, squeezing more money out of families already struggling with rising petrol costs and a myriad of other tolls and taxes to use their vehicle. It's his anti-car agenda, plain and simple.

Tragic decision given bus speeds are at a 10yr low and this spot is especially bad. Painful irony too coming from the Cabinet Member for Inequality given that people on the lowest incomes rely most on buses. Let alone, supporting buses is supporting a public service for everyone.

Cant imagine anyone accepts trees should be used as EV charging gantries 😱. A sad encroachment of car culture on nature, partly down to price (domestic vs public) but also local plans/comms. We need charging masterplans that map out options for residents today and in future ⚡️🚗

I'm in favour of higher taxes on bigger cars. SUVs are inappropriate in cities. Dangerous to other road users, environmentally damaging, and take up too much space on our roads. And we make £2billion to spend elsewhere.

@horton_official Our High Street was laid out in the 13th century so you can imagine what it is like when an SUV drives along it. Also noticeable that many people driving SUVs can barely see over the steering wheel.

Most car owners agree it's a problem so let's start talking about sensible ways to fix it, inc. policies that ensure carmakers build appropriately sized & functional cars that are suitable for families and not a danger to families.

@BBCTomEdwards @BBCLondonNews @BBCRadioLondon Such a ludicrous culture war! Only a small minority of SUVs are large. Most are family sized cars but with a higher floor. This is great for people with limited mobility, and even small SUVs provide more space for families.
