O Botafogo protocolou, na última sexta-feira (3), ações contra o Olympique Lyonnais na Justiça, em razão de dívidas que ultrapassam R$ 745 milhões. O objetivo é assegurar o retorno dos valores devidos, fundamentais para o fortalecimento do projeto esportivo Alvinegro, e resguardar o patrimônio do Clube. Como é de conhecimento público desde a incorporação da SAF, em 2022, o Botafogo passou a integrar o Grupo Eagle, rede multiclubes liderada por John Textor. Como estratégia competitiva foi adotado por todos os clubes do grupo um modelo colaborativo de gestão financeira e de atletas. Esse modelo contribuiu para conquistas históricas do Botafogo, como a CONMEBOL Libertadores e o Campeonato Brasileiro de 2024. Para o Olympique Lyonnais, essa colaboração também teve um impacto histórico no primeiro ano sob o comando de John Textor, tirando o clube da zona de rebaixamento e queda iminente, e o classificando para a Liga Europa em apenas uma janela de transferência. Eagle Football adquiriu o Olympique Lyonnais em situação de insolvência no final de 2022, com todos os bancos exigindo pagamento da dívida, e sob a ameaça de sanções pesadas do DNCG no primeiro dia de controle da Eagle. Por esse contexto, o Botafogo realizou aportes financeiros sucessivos, totalizando mais de R$ 745 milhões, a título de empréstimos, com a clara expectativa de reembolso em condições previamente estabelecidas. Posteriormente, em meio a conflitos internos entre sócios do Grupo Eagle, a nova presidente do Olympique Lyonnais rompeu unilateralmente o acordo de colaboração. Apesar de ter se beneficiado dos recursos recebidos, o clube francês deixou de cumprir as obrigações assumidas, recusando-se a efetuar o pagamento da dívida aos clubes do Grupo Eagle de R$745 milhões ao Botafogo, e outros €12 milhões ao RWDM Brussels. A inadimplência gerou impactos diretos na operação do Botafogo, comprometendo o planejamento financeiro e afetando a capacidade de renovação e contratação de atletas. Como consequência, o Clube foi, inclusive, alvo da aplicação de um Transferban pela FIFA no final de 2025. A partir de agora, o Botafogo realiza esse movimento de forma irreversível: A SAF adotará todas as medidas legais cabíveis para recuperar integralmente os valores devidos pelo Olympique Lyonnais e assegurar a continuidade e a solidez de seu projeto esportivo.
