Interesting: A new bill from @CMZParker5 would give a D.C. school lottery preference to kids at charter schools that close. (Usual preferences include for siblings, at-risk kids, etc.) Parker says charter schools can close suddenly and frequently, leaving families scrambling.

@mattyglesias That's a fair point. But with D.C. schools you're talking about moving 90,000 kids, many of whom travel across neighborhoods or the city to attend school. (And if Metrobuses aren't running on their usual schedule it can throw things off further.)

Well, it’s also the reality that many teachers and staff live outside D.C., and every jurisdiction around the city has closed their schools tomorrow also. Deciding whether to open schools isn’t just about if students can get there, it’s also about teachers.

@maustermuhle We should collectively consider this misallocation of funds, resources, and enrollment a tragedy when only 22ish% of students attend their traditional neighborhood public schools. Sustaining two systems rips through the togetherness and spirit of our neighborhoods and city.

Frumin was echoing concerns made in recent years that the D.C. charter school sector's growth wasn't coordinated with DCPS, leaving many unfilled seats in some schools while others are packed. The charter school board has of recent moved away from expanding just to expand.

Who uses a period between the month and day? Today is 3-14 or 3/14. The former is the Washington Commanders' record next season and the latter is a student's assessment score when using 3.14 for pi. I know the math teacher community can be more creative and relevant...@NCTM
