The 14th Amendment was written to guarantee citizenship to freed slaves after the Civil War. It was never intended as an automatic reward for people who cross our border illegally and have children on American soil. The only lasting fix for birthright citizenship runs through the amendment process. I introduced a Constitutional Amendment to fix this months ago.
