We've come a long way on #PatientPartner 💰compensation in #Research. When I started asking 15+ yrs ago, I often got: 'we don't have $ for that.' In a new initiative I'm part of, one of my 1st tasks is to draft up guidance on this. This is progress (even if we've a ways to go)!

@Retlouping I’ve been wearing a mask mostly, not in coffee shops though. Had a cold last April, then had the winter lurgy respiratory thing for Xmas. Deduced that I caught it in a pub just before Xmas, having a coffee with a friend late afternoon. Was not happy!

I know I’m a pain in the ass mask wearing numpty, but I haven’t had a cough or a cold, or a sneeze, or a wheeze or any other disease since the COVID epidemic began. I am vaccinated for COVID x 5, flu X 3 but have been unusually healthy for 3 years. A bizarre coincidence?

@joelvsarthritis For years when taking to people I made sure I mentioned the tiredness that comes with pain. The exhaustion. It’s certainly not something that people with no personal experience of pain would recognise as part of the condition.

Chronic pain isn't just about how much it hurts; it's about how bloody exhausting it is. Physically, I wade through water to do the simplest of tasks. Mentally, I climb mountains to distract my tired mind. Chronic pain is a fight on two fronts. Every. Single. Day.

@DailyMailUK @MaxPemberton Thanks for highlighting this important topic & that it’s not just about pain. It’s about the person. I think there needs to be an emphasis on recovery - many people are finding relief, partial or full recovery from years of chronic pain by understanding & treating their emotions.

@DeepakRavindra5 My brother in law has FND in the form of non-epileptic seizures. He hasn’t been told this, he’s been told he has epilepsy. He believes the diagnosis & believes meds are the answer. I researched FND. He won’t listen to me. So frustrating because his life could be so different.

This translation gap is so relevant is so many other areas of medicine esp Pain as well. #predictiveprocessing and the abyesian approach to understanding pain is much better reframe and can also explain the overlap between #fnd and #pain

@PainChampions CBT was great for me too & has played an important part in my recovery.

Great case example. YES to a biopsychosocial approach & multidisciplinary care, including pain psychology! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy played a major role at the 3-week. interdisciplinary Mayo Clinic Pain Rehabilitation Center I attended & is key to my #chronicpain recovery.

@sirpauk A friendly approach now but it wasn’t for a very long time. It was me against ‘it’. It was a battle. Then I became friends with it. Now I give it a nod when it says hi, carry on & check in with myself & ensure I’m being kind, lots of self compassion & relaxation.

@Trewern_K @typejunky @LivingWellPain @livewellpain Thanks @Trewern_K I don’t have sciatica anymore but had it 24/7 for 10 years, excruciatingly, daily, both legs at the same time. Lots of experience/expertise. Totally sympathise with you. Happy to try & help.

@typejunky @LivingWellPain might be a useful resource for you and @livewellpain and @sciatica_uk I live/work with low back pain which is 🤬sometimes then I use a chiropractor, always stretching though, I hope you find something that makes it better.

@sirpauk That’s such a pity, but as you say, completely understandable in his position. It’s overwhelming enough when you’re not in the public eye.
