@JayLJeffers I don’t know what he thinks he is saying when he says “Texts have no intrinsic meaning” that isn’t either something every child knows (the meaning we ascribe to symbols is a matter of convention) or else false (authors didn’t mean anything by what they wrote).

I think Dan McClellan is a great resource for learning about the Bible but he doesn’t make sure to deliver every lesson in a way that is maximally comfortable for every form of popular piety & so many who allegedly value learning about the Bible get upset about his content.

@azcentral Can we try to get basic facts right - the ordinance has nothing to do with permanent tent cities but was targeted at, among other things, people providing meals to homeless people. It applies any public property and even private property in some instances.

@azcentral Specifically. the study indicates that 29% of children were living with family when traffic not they this percent was trafficked by family. Most of the rest were in DCS supervision. The study says nothing about who trafficked the children.

If we *are* going to allocate city resources toward subsidizing childcare costs, I think a caregiving stipend––applied neutrally with regard to type of care––would be a better solution.

@katewillett If community meetings aren’t representative of constituents then politicians would safely ignore them. To whatever extent they have an impact it has to be because elected officials think the express what their voters want.

For some reason these guys seem hesitant to put my statement in the context of the essay, which is that its a mild and maybe ok rollback of voice compared to the long litany of anti democratic stuff they’re involved in that’s a lot more concerning.

"Community input on development" is not a form of democracy. Democracy is when people vote on things, not when small groups get to veto what people voted for.

@JohnnyWalsh__ @besttrousers Citizens letting their representatives know how they feel about certain issues is very democratic. Is it the Hoi Polloi you have an issue with or would you just rather only the rich and corporations get to voice concerns with elected officials?

In January 2024, Shai Davidai made a video edit of me and Mohsen at a protest, splicing in clips of Hamas leaders. He then circulated it to massive Zionist accounts. The result? Nonstop rape threats, deportation calls, and a wave of violent incitement. The protest he filmed was in response to a chemical attack by Israeli soldiers on Columbia’s campus, which hospitalized multiple students, including myself. At that protest, Mohsen warned: if this violence is allowed to escalate, one of us will pay the price. Once again, we see a clear pattern. Mahmoud was detained just days after Shai Davidai launched a racist campaign against him online in collaboration with Canary Mission. Mohsen has now been kidnapped. Shai Davidai has been going after him for almost 2 years now, knowing that he has lost multiple family members in Palestine. Columbia has not said Mahmoud or Mohsen’s name in any communications whatsoever. They have not responded to desperate reports from multiple students concerned for their physical safety as a result of this professor’s incitement. Shai Davidai is quite literally on paid leave and has made a full-time career out of inciting state violence against vulnerable Arab & Muslim students. None of these incidents have happened in isolation. This is completely, 100% the fault of Columbia University. They want you to think they have no option but to capitulate to every single demand of zionists and the Trump administration but we can see that the Tufts University admin has put out a declaration of support for Rumseya Özturk, demanding her release. We can see that Harvard is at least pretending to not concede to the Trump administration’s demands (although they have in many ways). Columbia is COMMITTED to endangering their Palestinian students. They want their Arab & Muslim students to face the extent of state violence and repression so they don’t have to do it themselves. They want you to believe their hands are tied, but in reality, this is something that the Columbia administration and trustees are watching happen with satisfaction.

@xgigglypuff C is a fantastic language and knowledge developed by getting good at it can be leveraged in so many ways. I will say that learning C on a posix system seems far superior than learning it on Windows and wonder if that impacts people

i started with C and really liked it <3 but the message is true, try different things before you write it off as something you’d never enjoy. programming can be a vastly different experience based on what you’re working on.
