@TheJusticeDept Short version: The Justice Department continues to be in violation of the law
English

The US Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI have informed the Department of Justice that they have uncovered over a million more documents potentially related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The DOJ has received these documents from SDNY and the FBI to review them for release, in compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, existing statutes, and judicial orders. We have lawyers working around the clock to review and make the legally required redactions to protect victims, and we will release the documents as soon as possible. Due to the mass volume of material, this process may take a few more weeks. The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s direction to release the files.
English

@DAGToddBlanche Shorter version: we plan to continue to be in violation of the law.
English

There has been lots of sensationalism and even outright lies these past few days about the “Epstein Files.” But let’s separate fact from fiction. Document production is just that. We produce documents, and sometimes this can result in releasing fake or false documents because they simply are in our possession because the law requires this. Case in point: the so-called Epstein Nassar letter is clearly FAKE - wrong handwriting, wrong return address, and postmarked three days after Epstein died. Fake videos of Epstein in his cell. Photos with no explanation. Sensational tales and lies by random people. These are not reality. We will continue to produce every document required by law. Let’s not let internet rumor engines outrun the facts.

What does free speech absolutist @elonmusk think about Jimmy Kimmel having his TV show canceled for saying things that the Trump administration didn't like?
English

@elonmusk So then why did you help him get elected? Were you wrong then?
English

@TheChiefNerd @chamath The progression:
1) I supported Democrats, but they wouldn't return my calls, even though I'm rich. WTF?
2) I shifted to supporting MAGA, and I get my phone calls returned now. Cool!
3) The only downside was that I had to lick the tyrant's boots
4) But they taste good!
English

.@chamath: “I was a megadonor to the Democrats … I couldn't get a phone call returned from the White House to save my life … The Trump administration is totally different. There's not a single person there you can't get on the phone and talk to.”
English

@FrancisPSantora Yes, it's a good book. I read it in the middle of my angel-investment career, and reading it earlier would have been even better. :)
It's sad what happened to Calacanis later, but that doesn't invalidate the book
English

@AmWonderingWhy @trenchkench @Mayhem4Markets @elonmusk Translation: you can't think of a proper reply
English

@AmWonderingWhy @Mayhem4Markets @elonmusk Yes, as Elon well knows, free speech should always be immediately punished
English

@Vanguard_Group That's great that an unnamed "appropriate team for review" heard something or other about my tweet, without any details about the interaction. They must have been satisfied, though, because no one reached out.
Consider offering an avenue on your site for written feedback
English

I've always had a pretty good experience with @Vanguard_Group for stock funds and retirement accounts
But I just had the most mindblowingly bad customer service experience I've ever had. Time to move everything from Vanguard to some other institution.
Recommendations?

there are over 11,000 energy generation projects in the interconnection queue (over 1,900 gigawatts combined). This is twice as much generation capacity as currently exists in the US.
we need to get these online much faster!

Here's a short story I just finished: ‘Paesano’s’ link.medium.com/v7TCOSJYYOb
Sort of an homage to a couple of my favorite novels/novelists (can you guess who?)

@JeremyNguyenPhD @eigenrobot I think he thinks this because he’s starting with a very restrictive idea of what subject matter is appropriate for kids.
If you demand that books be written at an 8th grade reading level but still be about Dick and Jane and their dog Spot then yes you will run out of books
English

@eigenrobot Can anyone help me steelman this guy's point of view?
I'm just trying to understand why he might think this.

it's unfortunate that one as learned as dr baeder would indulge in the clichéd "lump of literature" argument, which was understood to be fallacious even by the ancients
see eg Kohelet (c. 450BC), ch. 12
Justin Baeder, PhD@eduleadership
Let's say your kid reads many years above grade level, as mine do and always have. Guess what—that just means they run out of books to read faster than everyone else! What's the goal here? How does it benefit the child to pay $$$ to push them even farther out?
English

@eduleadership @sacred_dingus Maybe you should make that standard clearer. And is appropriateness here determined by parent or child?
Here’s a test for you: is there an age below which it is inappropriate to read “Lord of the Rings”?
English

@eduleadership @sacred_dingus I suspect that this is only true if you have a very restrictive idea of what content is age-appropriate
English

The academic acceleration maximalists are honestly worse than the sports dads living vicariously through their kids and making them hate the sport.
Yes, you probably CAN push your kid to do 10th grade math in upper elementary school. But...why?

“It’s not happening.” When I was in kindergarten, a teacher told my mom that I would commit suicide by the time I was a teenager because they were encouraging me to learn too fast

@scottbelsky Definitely - it would not be possible to beat polio or measles or smallpox before we had betting markets (wtAF?)

if there were betting markets around the effectiveness and net benefit of vaccines, I suspect there may be more consensus
