He didn't air his views in class, but on his personal X account in his own time. It has nothing to do with duty of care. The TRA ruled in his favour.

Sacked for telling the truth. I have read the report from the DfE and it is disgraceful. A good teacher has been struck off for holding very normal, common-sense views. Civil servants in Westminster would faint if they met someone from Darlington or Middlesbrough. They are completely detached from reality. I hope Mr Everett appeals and is successful.

@Johnmch02 @SuellaBraverman My apologies, I thought that was addressed to me :) Most schools I've taught at incorporate it, some more than others. Though I understand some don't. Very difficult not to let Jesus' teachings shine through, whether you characterise them as Christian. or not, IMO

‼️ In the UK speech is only free if you say what the government wants you to say. A PE teacher posted that migrants should respect UK laws. An independent panel reviewed everything including multiple posts, you may or may not agree with and decided a ban was NOT justified. The Department for Education overruled them and banned him anyway. Even lawful speech can end your career, simply because the government says so.

The other events are more festive and performative, while last night's included a formal, obligatory congregational prayer that visually and audibly dominated the space for that brief period. That’s the difference.

The TRA found he wasn't being racist/sexist (eg in a protected characteristic sense), but the DfE ruled the comments further breached Teacher standards (which they did). I wouldn't want him teaching my kids.
