Repeated cardiac strain causes chronic energy deficits, high cortisol, and suppressed hypothalamic signaling. Your natural antioxidant function can't keep up with the constant catabolic damage. Endurance athletes have up to 10x greater prevalence of Atrial fibrillation. Everybody has heard of a health freak athlete who died of sudden heart complications. Now we're seeing increased incidence of colon cancer in long-distance runners. I'm all for people destroying themselves in pursuit of greatness, but lets not pretend that endurance training is good for you.
