Chicago Cubs' starting pitcher Shota Imanaga was cooking with his nasty splitter, eliciting a 44.8% swinging-strike rate against the Angels. He was throwing the splitter in the zone 52% of the time, with hitters chasing half the time (50%) on Tuesday. 🥵Imanaga's velocity was up via the four-seam (+1.4 mph) 🧹Velocity increased for the sweeper (+2.5 mph), leading to it losing 3 inches of glove-side sweep 😍It was a beautiful approach of four-seamers in the upper third and splitters down in the zone.

There are still some tweaks to work out, but...

Shota Imanaga had a 56 percent whiff rate tonight. Not on any one pitch, but overall. The total was 25 whiffs on just 76 pitches. The Angels had most of their starters in, too. Wow.
