Contrary to what Karoline Leavitt says, women can’t “have it all,” and the idea that we can is—as with everything in feminism—decidedly anti-woman. But more to the point: I don’t think TPUSA was ever a truly anti-feminist organization. Nor did they ever claim to be. They literally have a yearly event called the Young Women’s Leadership Summit. They had this while Charlie was alive. And I’m sure it’s a lovely event, but it doesn’t exactly scream trad. Charlie was just a regular conservative. He wasn’t some fundamentalist trad dude. I’d say a lot of folks on the right (self included) are way more traditional in view than Charlie was—or at least, than what he expressed publicly. As usual, people are making over Charlie into something he wasn’t. He literally just told women they’d likely be happier being wives and mothers—and that it’d be better if they started that sooner rather than later. It’s not that serious. And you can claim he never would’ve wanted his wife to be CEO because he wanted women at home, but he also had an event training young women to be leaders—the time when they “should” be prioritizing marriage and family. Charlie was a living breathing human and not the cardboard cutout you want to reduce him to. This isn’t as either/or as you guys are trying to make it. Charlie never said women couldn’t or shouldn’t do anything else, and he definitely never said women shouldn’t be CEOs. People are remaking him into way more of a “trad” than he actually was given that he married a very accomplished woman five years older than him, who was 30 at the time of their wedding, and who continued to work (as a CEO) throughout their marriage. Pretending otherwise is a really dishonest framing from—let’s be real—people who don’t even really care about traditional values and love feminism when it suits them; this is all just another cheap ploy to attack Erika by any means possible.
