@drunklibshill He's a boring centrist technocrat who's smart enough not to axe social programs (Starmer take note) and who's positioning vs the US and economic policies broadly make sense. His main opponent is also a lame-duck who doesn't realise it yet.

We have a huge infrastructure gap in transportation in the country. It's inhibiting to the country on so many levels and yet time and time again we entertain the parochial, small minded self-interested naysayers like the CPC who lament loss while they actively contribute to it

@random2152 I guess yes it could. The Uranium part, I've thought about & agree but the secrecy around it would be fundamental, it would be the basis of whatever pact we'd then form with France & the UK.

@Bone348 Thats why I figure this is the only way. If we observe/contribute uranium, we arent actually developing the nukes. And we wouldn't actually own any. Just the right to purchase them at some undetermined time in the future. Gets us a potential ability without the political fallout

@foolishyangban Pierre Poilievre just said we should be insulated from global O&G fluctuations, like bro... That's straight up the cornerstone of the NEP.

@random2152 America would lose their shit like never before if that happened. Plus we don't operate SSBNs & shouldn't bc they're too expensive. I'd rather we let the UK take the lead in a CANZUK deterrent, potentially paying them to build more subs & operating their subs from our bases.

@Bone348 Can we become an observer for this program too? Pay some development costs for the right to buy some at a later date should we ever decide to

@sarobertsonca This wouldn't solve the gas price issue as Cdn oil would still be sold at global prices kept high by Hormuz being closed.

Q: If you were Prime Minister, what would you do about securing the Strait of Hormuz? Pierre Poilievre: My goal would be to massively increase production and shipping of Canadian oil and gas.

Another HSR post; FUN FACT: the HSR trains of Italy, China(some) & Sweden are all ZEFIRO Variants designed by, you'll never guess who.... BOMBARDIER, Canada's flagship transportation industrial firm. We even apparently have domestic expertise... Build the damn train!!!

Canada needs Japanese and South Korean engineers to build us a high speed train with its own dedicated line from Quebec City through Montreal and Ottawa to Toronto. We also need a high speed rail between Calgary to Edmonton It’s time for us to evolve

@Joe40885491 We gotta start somewhere, where it's most opportune & profitable at 1st. If our population grows again in the future or once the 1st lines are built, we shpuld start linking all the major urban regions.

Let's really swing for the fences... I say make it an East vs West competition. Quebec to Toronto HSR vs Edmonton to Calgary & Banff HSR Same funding up front from the feds. First train in service gets to be called the Canadian Express.

I don’t only want highspeed rail from Windsor to Quebec City but also linking Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific and main centres in each province. We need to think big in Canada, not wimpy like Cons do. These projects are spurred by the govt but supercharge the economy.

Pierre and the Conservatives are showing their true colours again. Pierre Poilievre says he’ll cancel the Alto high-speed rail project, that’s 51,000 good-paying jobs gone. That’s not a plan. That’s walking away from the people who build this country. These are nation building jobs, paycheques for ironworkers, operating engineers, pipefitters, electricians, and labourers. The skilled trades that keep our communities growing. Canada is ready to build. Under @MarkJCarney, we’re building big and building bold, using Canadian steel, aluminum, lumber, and Canadian workers. Real projects. Good union jobs.

@natnewswatch Alberta gas tax suspension hasn't been triggered yet, the feds will probably wait for that to mirror it.

@Bone348 Glad we have so little priorities in this country that we’re investing all this thought and effort into the paint of the PMs plane. It’s not like there’s multiple international and economic crises occurring or anything…
