@bendee983 If you engineer your context well, your AI should be designing and authoring the hot path correctly. If you distrust it anyway, of course you will need to add performance testing.

Prove me wrong. I think the "unit tests is all you need" mentality is wrong. Here's why: Unit tests verify what the LLM-generated code should do, not what it shouldn't. The AI might hallucinate a bunch of nonsense code and functions that have nothing to do with the intent and goals of the application. The code will work perfectly fine but will also be sub-optimal. When it is a bottleneck function (something that runs thousands of times per second), you want it to be fully optimized. Every line of code matters. This is why I think whether AI writes the code or not, you should be able to review and uderstand it, at least the bottlenecks that can cause massive performance issues. Happy to be proven wrong, or share your experience if you've been able to address this.

@resisfertile The male chromosome doesn't even contain the data for a full human being. It's just the data to trigger a female (default human gender) embryo to transition into a male embryo in the womb.

Or you could just realize men are not defective women, and therefore do not think like women, and therefore women need to communicate instead of assume and treat them as if they are somehow purposefully wronging them when they are just operating how they are designed. So much bad modern marriage and relationship advice exists because it is premised on men being a defective version of women.
Diane Yap@RealDianeYap

A lot of ink is spilled about female solipsism, but ask any woman the number of times a man she's living with has gotten up to get himself a glass of water and not bothered asking if she wanted one too. Daily lack of consideration is just the tip of the iceberg.

@Grady_Booch There is one lasting effect: Crypto value is based on nothing but scarcity, and yet it continued to grow in value as a meme. People realized you can do the same thing with real stocks like Tesla and SpaceX, ignore fundamentals and just meme, pump, and dump.

What once began as a noble experiment in forming a digital currency unencumbered by financial institutions, cryptocurrencies have proven to be an abject failure by every measure. There are on the order of only 30 million bitcoin wallets whose value is greater than $100 US; this represents at best about 0.36% of the world’s population, hardly a sufficient number to provide a global medium of exchange. While there certainly exist some fringe cases of utility, most notably by individuals needing to transport value outside dictatorial countries with broken and oppressive economies, cryptocurrencies are largely an object of speculation, driven by market manipulation and the economy of the greater fool and favored by criminal organizations and countries such as Russia and North Korea seeking to avoid sanctions. The ancillary industries spawned by cryptocurrencies – NFT and DeFi and so-called Web3 - never gained traction, and indeed proved to enrich a small few at the expense of the many. At the start of this technology, I was curious and hopeful, but it is clear that human greed has irredeemably ruined it for all.

@synaesthesiajp It follows Moore's Law because games have to improve whenever displays and CPU/GPU improve. And unfortunately content creation tools have not kept up with the number and complexity required for modern hame assets. e.g. Final Fantasy XV credited 70 art outsourcing companies.

This is the most insane comment, especially coming from someone who worked in the industry. Let's go back to 1995, where a AAA game was likely around 2M. That blue line is the inflation of cost of development for a AAA game, the red line is inflation on that same 2M. Game production costs have followed Moore's Law way more than they have followed inflation, and to say "but they were cheaper 20 years ago" is just a silly thing to say.

@dystopiangf Different things can be different. Not everything is analogous to something else. That said, flashing your ankle used to be scandalous. Some women still chose to do it. Now you do it without thinking. Chastity changes with time and place and culture.

A lot of women seem to have magical, alchemic notions of consent & desire. Without consent, sex is the most sacred of acts, a violation of which is worse than murder. But upon the granting of consent, sex loses all of its sacred character, becoming entirely ordinary & casual; a large number of sexual partners leaves zero spiritual residue, and you’re an incel if you even question that
Tradvocate@TradAdvocate

Feminists treat sex as though it were as meaningless as a handshake. They encourage women to sleep around with random strangers and even sell their bodies. But suddenly sex is so serious and even traumatizing when the man they married wants it. Totally insane.

@Mark___Taylor 90% of people get 90% of their temperament from recent culture. Very few people go against the flow. I'm only in my 40s and I've seen people change with US culture shifts multiple times. There are people all across X arguing to kill Black people every day. Of course it's real.

A good rule of thumb is that your ancestors had a temperament very similar to you. So when you hear stories like “back in the day Whites used to hunt down blacks and lynch them for looking at them wrong,” ask yourself if you would do that? If you wouldn’t, it’s probably fake.

@Sir_Dammed The ESA survey, like Newzoo, does indeed account for hours played and so on. But you have to buy their industry market research reports to see it. "Gamer" is the generic top level cohort and their definition is useful for businesses. "Core gamer" is defined in the full report.

SirD 🇺🇸@Sir_Dammed·
No, 50% of gamers are not women. This claim originated from an ESA global survey that doesn't even account for things like hours played. Meaning: someone who's played a cell phone game for 1 hour would be counted as "a gamer." Anyone with even a basic grasp of fandoms and hobbies understands that's not how this works. If you read three pages of a comic book once, then put it down and never do it again, you're not a comic book fan. Stating otherwise would just be lying/posing. When studies and surveys look at who actually calls themselves "gamers," men overwhelmingly outnumber women in the hobby. When studies and surveys look at those who game 10+ hours per week on average, men outnumber women in the hobby. When studies and surveys look at who games on console and PC, men overwhelmingly outnumber women in the hobby. If you hear these statistics and feel personally attacked by them, it just means you're more interested in pushing a narrative than the truth. That truth being: gaming is a male hobby... and while women are more than welcomed into it... trying to change it in order to make it into something that it's not because you find it "problematic" just exposes yourself as an outsider, and a tourist.
aeretix 🦇🎃👻✨@aeretix_

@Nelcomar2 I’ll say it ONE MORE TIME There are no male hobbies. There are no female hobbies. There are just hobbies. It’s not difficult and if you assume gaming is male when 50% of it is women, you are just sexist.

@favelaoverlord Context engineering is incredibly important if you are coding or doing business work, because there are few correct outputs. On the other hand there are effectively infinite correct ways to arrange pixels into a Pikachu. So context engineering is less important.

@Linahuaa You think any of these incremental advancements are comparable to revolutionary technologies like personal computers, Internet, smartphones, social media, and generative AI? The Chinese system has always produced followers. They are structurally incapable of innovation.

White Americans are literally closer to Blacks in PISA score than they are to middle class Chinese. Now think about it: What do you think about a typical "nigga" at school? Not much, right? And the Chinese think the exact same thing about typical White Americans. Sorry if it comes off as racebaiting. That sincerely wasn't my intention. I'm just presenting the facts. The numbers don't lie.

Why did White people take over 1000 years just to catch up to the long-dead Roman Empire in terms of culture and technology? Because IQ is one thing, but system also matters. But China has both superior system and IQ today and they will innovate in more changing ways in the future

Honestly, racism is one of those things many Japanese people struggle to understand. If we see a white person, we think, "Oh, they're white." If we see a black person, we think, "Oh, they're black." If there were blue people, we'd probably think, "Oh, they're blue." And that's about as far as it goes. If someone is nice, we think they're nice. If someone is an asshole, we think they're an asshole. If we like them, we like them. If we don't, we don't. We grow up being told not to cause trouble, not to fight, and to get along with the people around us. Maybe that's why judging someone by their race feels so foreign to a lot of Japanese people. We're usually too busy judging people by whether they're good people or not.

@Sierra_rak The fact that you think a person's achievements have anything to do with their likeability is odd. The guy is a huge asshole and very often a charlatan. It's perfectly ok not to like him for those reasons even if he can build a rocket.

To everyone who hates Elon Musk, tell me one thing: Why do you hate him? Because he tells the truth? Because he just became the world’s first trillionaire? Because he’s creating thousands of jobs? Because he’s building electric cars, reusable rockets, and Starlink that connects remote areas? Because he bought X to give people free speech again? Because he’s pushing humanity toward multi-planetary life and real innovation? What’s the actual reason then?
