@FelipeCar If you’re not ordering an espresso drink, then you’re barking at the moon. Coffee is watered down espresso. That’s why espresso + water = a “cafe americano”. It’s going to be watery

I have to finally say this loudly: Atlanta has a lot great coffee shops, but terrible coffee. It's bitter. It's watery. It's consistently awful. Shout your best ATL coffee spots...emphasis on "coffee."

@ProBono28 @ryanburge But why would the church ordain people to the priesthood if they don’t hold the True Faith? Or not discipline them when they deviate?

@Fperrett @ryanburge As I said, practically speaking, one can refer to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (which was declared to be a “sure norm” for learning the faith).

Among Catholic priests who were ordained in the late 1960s: 68% describe their theology as progressive. 16% said it was conservative. Among priests ordained in the last few years: 2% describe their theology as progressive. 84% said it was conservative.

@Fperrett @ryanburge The reason is that the regular clergy (like the priests) are not the teaching authority per se. So it is possible for priest A to be heretical or unfaithful (after all Martin Luther was a priest and Judas was an apostle) and yet layperson B has access to true doctrines.

@ProBono28 @ryanburge How can it claim to be the True Church if after a generation the clergy believe and teach different things?

@Fperrett @ryanburge The doctrines are the same but compliance is not. The point is that, in any age, a Catholic who desires to be faithful has access to the true faith (even if there is widespread dissent).

@Fperrett @ryanburge I have a niece and nephew from nears Cincinnati that both got full rides to Alabama. At the time my kids were looking at schools the Bama recruiter said 57% of the students at Bama were from out of state.

In Spring of 2016, the on campus enrollment at Eastern Illinois University was 6,991. In Spring of 2026, it was 3,660. That's a decline of 48% in just ten years. This is happening right now to dozens of directional universities throughout the Midwest.

I don’t think people have fully absorbed just how big the declines in student enrollment are going to be. Eight states are projected to experience DOUBLE DIGIT declines by 2031.

Learning that Barstool sports guys have been going to and posting about widespread panic concerts and I’m kind bummed by it.

@realmattcarr “we invite you to honor your parents’ faith and decision by making the decision to do immersion baptism in order to become a member of our church” - Baptist pastor to a friend who objected to rebaptism. He was like “I think you misunderstand my parents faith”

Requiring credobaptism of someone who was baptized as an infant is necessarily both re-baptism and a repudiation of the validity of most churches in history (and their baptismal practice since the Apostles).

Praying for First Pres Demopolis today - where I administered the Lord's Supper for the first time back in January and preach frequently. They're a sweet church currently looking for a pastor - pray that the Lord calls the right man there.

@AlondraInfinita @JLLiedl Yeah it seems to be a no brainer that one would want to communicate with the people to whom they minister. Not sure why this is news

@Fperrett @JLLiedl Catholic priests usually work in areas where a different or rare language is spoken. Learning this language, rather than pretending the flock spoke English or Spanish, is a sign of respect, humility and closeness, while expanding the priest's local knowledge and access.

The diocese of Chiclayo offered Quechua to its employees, b/c that's the only language spoken by some of the ppl they served in the Andes. One day the director checked the enrollment list and saw that Bp. Robert Prevost had signed up. He wanted to be able to speak w/ his people.

@juventini1998 I have no idea. But in Peru is the work of a Roman priest equivalent to the work of a governor in the United States?

@ryanvisconti Thanks for the response. Interesting to see the extent to which seasonality affects church attendance. Gotta be hard to plan for in a large church like that where a busy week might mean you need an extra 4000 seats!

It’s just growth. Like the 3rd week in May 2024 was 3,746, so the 4445 number in 2025 was up 18% over the previous year. We had a big growth spurt in Sept 2025 after Charlie was murdered. I actually made a mistake in my last response to you. The 2nd week of Nov 2025 was 6,130 up 50% from 4076 in 2024. Then the last week of December (normally a kinda low week) in 2025 was 5,170- up 38% from 3,747 in 2024. As January starts, attendance picks back up. Then it will start to slump as we get into summer time till school starts back up.

Year / Easter Attendance 2014: 739 2015: 1,179 2016:1,470 2017: 1,867 2018: 2,687 2019: 3,254 2020: * 2021: 3,340 2022: 4,408 2023: 5,700 2024: 6,977 2025: 7,943 2026: 10,670 My first year as a pastor on staff was 2011 and the Easter attendance was in the mid-300’s. We relaunched the church as Generation Church in 2014 and our average weekly attendance by that point was about 500 people. I’ve heard from many pastors that seeing the progression of another church over a fairly long stretch like this has been encouraging to them. Hopefully, it encourages someone who has big vision and dreams of reaching more people for Jesus. I’ll admit, it’s pretty painful working through various growth barriers, but with grit and God’s help, anything is possible.
