@kportermagee @rpondiscio Kathleen what you wrote in 2012 reflects so much of what I have seen as a school leader - replication hasn’t worked. What would you write differently now?

@rpondiscio Love this. Reminded me of this post I wrote in 2012–which I’d probably write differently now, with the benefit of hindsight. But I still think the idea that we hoped for a paint-by-numbers “scale” without depth or excellence led us astray. fordhaminstitute.org/ohio/commentar…

@teacherhead Tom this step, often overlooked, is so true in my experience. Someone needs to be able to see/dream/think about what comes next, long term. Visiting schools, connecting with others, reading, listening, revisiting past books/papers - beyond the demands of the present. It’s key.

2. You need a source of ideas.. some schools and teams within them are not switched into a flow of thinking about learning - or only feed on it second hand. Sharing ideas is vital —but obviously books, blogs, conferences, one-pagers etc .. don’t change things in themselves.

After 5 years of @WALKTHRUs_5 Some reflections on CPD and coaching. 1. There are several components needed to translate ideas about teaching and learning into improved practice that can improve learning - and some are often so underdeveloped that change just doesn’t happen …

@themetresgained Thanks for the shout out Trisha! Couldn’t agree more re regional disadvantage. It kind of gets lost because it’s nowhere near as significant as our remote friends but it’s a massive issue. Access to PD, fewer opportunities, isolation …regions need attention.

@Layno33 @PamelaSnow2 @EducationHQ_AU I’d say in your context, that’s a good mantra. And hang in there. Losing knowledgeable middle leaders is tough. There’s a massive implementation issue in many schools. Find your tribe - supporting each other is key. Message me any time!

@Knight2Susan @PamelaSnow2 @EducationHQ_AU I 👏🏼your mantra & spent time considering this. Our prin is a naysayer. In 2 years we’ve lost 2 fab English leads to burn out and leave, unsupported in role. My mantra needs an update: Breathe, stay the course, be grateful & support those on the journey. Suggestions @Knight2Susan?

@Layno33 @PamelaSnow2 @EducationHQ_AU 🙏thankyou - my new mantra is ‘we’ve got to get better at getting better.’ Implementation is the tricky bit and management vs leadership. I spend a bit of time thinking about that. Post your top tips @Layno33 - what’s worked in your context?

@RplusDyslexia @PamelaSnow2 @rpondiscio @EducationHQ_AU @SPELDVic There are still enormous issues - early identification, skilled staff, resourcing, and timetabling of intervention. What happens in different schools varies a lot. Agree - too many children being left behind and still children leaving primary school unable to read well.

@Knight2Susan @PamelaSnow2 @rpondiscio @EducationHQ_AU @SPELDVic Hi Sue, I was referring to all the ideologies now being recognized, it’s a tremendous shift & so good! Here, our dyslexic students are not getting much but the prevention model is improved significantly. The same can be said for U.S. The scores show they are being left behind.

@RplusDyslexia @PamelaSnow2 @rpondiscio @EducationHQ_AU Jo-Anne please be assured we are supporting children with LD’s as are many schools I work with. We’ve used resources and completed PD with our local organisation @SPELDVic and Lyn Stone, plus have a strong reading intervention program. One interview can’t cover everything!

For schools seeking ways to accelerate reading fluency without relying solely on small group reads with adult instruction, dyad reading offers a practical, research backed solution. As always, the success is in the structure, consistency and quality of texts selected. 12/12

What if a simple, structured peer reading routine could triple students’ reading fluency growth without extra adult support? In 2017, Brown et al. tested this with ‘Dyad Reading’. The results were interesting. Here is what they found and how it works 🧵⬇️

@rastokke @PamelaSnow2 @NickGibbUK Snap - I listened today Pam. Quote that resonated - ‘the strongest opposition came from the academics.’ Eerily similar to Victoria with the exception of La Trobe and ACU. So much to learn from the UK experience. Thanks again Anna Stokke - you’ve got a big following in Aus.

@EminaMcLean A great episode Emina. Alice is such an expert practitioner with a laser focus on our kids. CLPS is unbelievably lucky to have her, as is Ballarat - she positively impacts our whole area. What a legend. And nice interview style too - huge congrats! ❤️
