Today, I am elated and grateful to share that the woman I posted about earlier this month, who was battling a massive breast tumor, has been officially discharged from the hospital.
Medical reports confirmed the tumor as a phyllodes tumor of the right breast, weighing about 13kg and measuring approximately 75cm by 80cm, making her recovery even more remarkable.
From the day I got her admitted on April 2nd, to her successful surgery on April 14th, and now to this moment, her journey has been nothing short of a miracle.
All medical bills have been fully settled, and she is now leaving the hospital with a renewed chance at life and hope for her children.
In this heartfelt video, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who stood by her, especially the Nigeria Police Force and myself (CSP Nkeiruka), who stepped in when help seemed far away. Her words were filled with prayers, appreciation, and a renewed belief that compassion still exists.
This journey has shown me that beyond every uniform is a human being, and beyond every difficult situation, there is always room for kindness.
To everyone who supported in any way, thru time, prayers, or encouragement thank you. You made this possible.
Let this not just be a story we celebrate, but a reminder of what we can achieve when we choose humanity first.
Compassion is powerful. Let’s keep it alive, mbok.

Celebrating Academic Brilliance!
Young Gambian Overcomes Poverty to Earn PhD in Public Health
In a remarkable story of resilience and determination, Dr. Musa Jaiteh from humble beginnings in Farafenni has today graduated with a PhD in Public Health (Health Sciences) from the University of Johannesburg, celebrating a triumph against extraordinary odds.
Born into a farming family where daily survival often overshadowed dreams, Jaiteh balanced education with harsh realities from a young age. He fished at sea to pay school fees, sold baobab fruit and firewood, and completed a seven-year welding apprenticeship to support his family. Despite these challenges and moments of doubt, he refused to give up.
His perseverance paid off: in 2019, he graduated top of his class from the Gambia College School of Nursing and Midwifery. He then secured the prestigious Pan-African University Scholarship for an MSc in Reproductive Health at the University of Ibadan.
Today’s achievement crowns years of sacrifice. His PhD thesis on developing an HIV testing predictive model produced six peer-reviewed journal articles and seven conference papers, earning him several awards.
Jaiteh dedicated his success to inspiring young Gambians facing adversity: “Your background does not define your future. No matter how hard it gets, do not give up.”
He expressed profound gratitude to his family, friends, and dedicated supervisors at the University of Johannesburg for their unwavering support.

Vaccines are saving lives, and Africa has made remarkable progress in less than a generation.
Nearly 20 million lives have been saved in Africa through measles vaccinations since 2000, and more than 500 million children protected through routine immunization.
But progress is uneven and slowing.
We must urgently strengthen routine immunization to leave no child behind.

A 17-year-old girl, Grace, lived for years with a football-sized tumor before receiving life-changing surgery.
The procedure was performed Dr. Gary Parker aboard the Africa Mercy, a floating hospital that provides free surgical care to underserved communities.
Although she could still eat and speak before surgery, the condition was progressively worsening making surgery a necessity.
Today, Grace says the operation has restored her confidence and given her the chance to return to school.

@Kerrfatou The proposal to register journalists and social media users is one of the most "backward" initiatives to emerge from a government that presents itself as committed to democracy, human rights, and the protection of journalists. It is simply unimaginable. @UKinTheGambia

Gambian Media, CSOs Reject Government’s Proposal to Register Journalists, Social Media Users
Fajara, 10 April, 2026 - The Gambia Press Union (GPU) and media industry stakeholders, including regulatory and professional associations, academic, and civil society groups have “totally rejected” a government proposal to register journalists, online media, and social media users in a resolution on Wednesday.
The new regulations, proposed by Ministry of Information and the state-controlled agency, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), also include provisions that seeks to moderate online content and would reverse gains made in press freedom and freedom of expression in The Gambia.
At an emergency meeting held at the GPU on 8th April, 2026, stakeholders resolve that the State-controlled registration and accreditation regime gives unlawful and arbitrary powers to the government to decide who practices journalism or not.
“The regulations give PURA the powers to register, suspend registration or revoke registration of journalists and influential social media users,” GPU Secretary General, Modou S. Joof, said. “The proposed regulations on journalist and social media users’ registration and online media licensing fall outside PURA’s statutory powers and therefore constitute an unlawful exercise of administrative authority.”
According to the resolution signed and endorsed by 16 professional media associations, regulatory and professional associations, academic, and civil society groups, the proposed regulations do not only restrict freedom of expression online, but also promotes state censorship, news and online content moderation, and interference editorial independence.
The GPU, Media and CSO stakeholders have also resolved to not give any credence to PURA’s proposal by not partaking in activities that seeks to enforce them.
“We hereby totally reject the proposal,” GPU President, Isatou Keita, said. “We cannot participate in the proposed consultations on the Broadcasting and Online Content Regulations, 2026; Broadcasting and Online Content Licensing, Registration and Authorisation Guidelines, 2026; and Journalists Registration Guidelines, 2026, since our participation would be seen to legitimise the proposed state-controlled system of accreditation and registration of journalists, online media, and social media users.”
The stakeholders also agreed that no journalist, journalists’ association, media houses or social media users should register with PURA, only to have their constitutional right to practice journalism, to seek employment in The Gambia or to seek, receive and impart information, or to freely express themselves online, arbitrarily taken away from them.
The parties to the resolution also agreed that the proposed regulations will be challenged in domestic and regional courts at the appropriate time if they come into effect and are enforced.
They recommended that the government immediately abandoned its plan to impose a general State system of registration and licensing of journalists, online media, and social media users.
They also proposed for the Gambia government to strengthen the Media Council of The Gambia (MCG), which was setup by the GPU in line with the Declaration of Principles on Freedom of Expression and access to Information in Africa, which states that “States shall encourage media self-regulation which shall be impartial, expeditious, cost-effective, and promote high standards in the media.
Conferring absolute authority on a state-controlled institution like PURA, which is prone to political and executive influence, is inconsistent with Principle 17 of the Declaration which states that “a public regulatory authority that exercises powers in the areas of broadcast, telecommunications or internet infrastructure shall be independent and adequately protected against interference of a political, commercial or other nature.”

@Kerrfatou From the start, the arrests of Ousainou Bojang and his sister Amie have defied logic, due process, and basic justice. The conduct of law enforcement and Government officials has been deeply troubling. What concerns me most is the clearly manipulated audio attributed to Ousainou.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow has acknowledged that the re-arrest of Ousainou and Amie Bojang was unlawful, describing the action as “regrettable” and unsupported by any legal basis or court order.
Mr. Jallow made the remarks during a government press conference, held earlier today, where he addressed growing public concern over the circumstances surrounding the case.
