Yeah. Three times the US beat China's most advanced radar and other technology. None of their ship killer missiles worked, with half falling in the sea before contact. They have fired most of the military leadership in the last few months. They found water instead of propellant in many of their nuclear missiles. They just disappeared the chief designer of the latest fighters. Their newest aircraft carrier was back in port after a week. Just had US military might demonstrated to them openly. More than half of their oil has been cut off. I am sure they are itching for a fight.

@ProfTalmadge China's technology failed in both Iran and Venezuela. They are currently suffering shortages of oil due to most of their imports coming through Hormuz and what they are getting is a LOT more expensive. I don't think we have anything to worry about for a while.

Military-focused leadership will always choose to fight - because the hard part of building an economic and nation-building isnt their responsibility. This conundrum was faced by Imperial Japan in World War 2 as well. The Imperial Army wanted to fight on; but the civilian side managed to pull off under them and gotten the Emperor of Japan to announce the surrender. When the surrender is heard, the Army also lost their will to fight.

China's sealift currently can't move enough force in the first wave. Only ~13 viable landing beaches, all known and fortified for 75 years. 100+ mile crossing under satellite surveillance means zero surprise. Weather windows limit attempts to ~2 months/year.

I've been hearing that the US committing to Iran means China can now "just take Taiwan". This is a massive oversimplification. Lack of US deterrence would make it from 'incredibly hard' to merely 'very hard'. Amphibious invasion across 100+ miles of open water to terrible landing geography is still the hardest thing any military can do. Taiwan's own $40B asymmetric warfare budget, Japan's deterrence, PLA's inexperience, and economic self-deterrence all matter independently of US missile stocks. Also US deterrence wouldn't be literally 0 here.
