@tall_n_rich @esrtweet There were some crazies that kept moaning about nixos and the another compositor. I dont think that dhh spend some time there.

@MaldonisTo21775 @esrtweet Can you elaborate? I would think DHH would keep the community somewhat based.

In response to my previous thread asking about the feasibility of switching to Arch, several people recommended NixOS instead.
That's not going to happen, and I'm sad about it. Because technically I'm extremely attracted to the Nix model. How could I not like declarative system specification with guaranteed safe rollback? That would be ideal.
As an old Lisp-head, I probably would have opted for the Guix variant that uses Guile/Scheme as an extension language.
Unfortunately, I have a friend who was a long time NixOS user who bailed out last year. He's given me a detailed and hair-raising report on why. I'll get back to that.
He says the design of NixOS is very Eric-shaped. He knows how much I like substituting declarative specifications driving simple engines for ad-hoc procedural logic (see for example loccount), and NixOS do be like that.
Unfortunately, he also says the NixOS developer community has become dysfunctional and insane. By his account, the woke mind virus took hold, drove away a lot of capable people, and addled the brains of most of those who remained. That's why he bailed out.
I have no reason to disbelieve him about this. It's a movie I've seen before.
He has a secondary technical criticism that Nix has a bad case of not invented here and builds a lot of bespoke machinery that would be unnecessary if it were willing to take full use of Linux's native namespace and containerization hooks. But they want to be fully portable to things like *BSD, so that hasn't happened.
The technical choice is defensible, and could be fixed. The mind-rot in the developer community probably isn't fixable. All you can usually do in cases like that is ignore the project and let it die.
So, no NixOS for me. Dammit. Communists ruin everything they touch.

@koderayush @Pankaj5_ i was windows user in 25 years. now linux 1 year. not hard because i take help from AI. Why is cool about linux, that you write and use shortcuts without using mouse. Very fast.

@zuess05 Maintenance makes a huge difference
..im junior and I know too well that I might fail there.

@tenzrStack @theo @FrameworkPuter @storopoli check hardwarecanucks .. all tests are varying of course. 41hr is because the 1hz display and dell optimization.
English

@MaldonisTo21775 @theo @FrameworkPuter @storopoli “41h Netflix” is mixing tests. Dell says 40+ hours for local video playback, not Netflix. The Netflix/streaming claim is 27–31h, and real reviews show it's closer to 12h

Claude Code might be making you dumber.
Not because it's bad at coding it's incredible.
But 6 months of 6+ terminals open, just hitting enter, waiting for output?
My brain feels like it's buffering.
The tool isn't the problem. The habit is.
Anyone else 22-25 feeling this? or is it just me and my friends.
English

I'm 22 years old and Claude Code is deteriorating my brain.
Every single day for the last 6 months I've had 6 to 8 Claude Code terminals open, waiting for a response just so I can hit 'enter' 75% of the time. And it's doing something to me.
In convos with a couple of friends, it's been a point that's been brought up pretty frequently.
None of us feel as sharp as we used to.
I don't know if it's just us, or others in their 20s are feeling the same thing, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot.
P.S. I know this is a problem with my reliability/usage of it, not Claude Code itself, but the effects are real nonetheless

@typecraft_dev @OmarchyLinux @DHH u want take a look at Fedora 44 Atomic Sway? superstable. I got some random bugs in Omarchy. Im sure I can configure Fedora in the DHH way :)
English

I don't understand. @OmarchyLinux is enabling all kinds of people to try out interesting linux tooling and ideas. Bringing more and more people into linux. Who cares if its arch, debian, whatever. It's fun, and its growing the broader linux community.
Comments like this hurt. Not me, they hurt the community. This kind of gatekeeping scares people away from linux. Please don't do this.
I love linux, I love the community. Let's grow it. Not gatekeep it. Please.

@typecraft_dev What the hell is this. This is not arch. Do not fucking say that you use arch ever again you larping fuck

@theo @FrameworkPuter @storopoli Impressive for Framework, but the MBP still wins official battery tests. 16” M5 Max is rated 22h video streaming vs Framework’s 20h Netflix.
English

@sammo3x @yacineMTB Not anymore.. Dell xps 41 hr battery ..2x more!!!!
