This was a great episode @BrodieOnLinux! I've messed around with @GraphiteEditor a few times this year. Most of my art needs are related to game dev so raster, drawing tablet, pixel art. It would be cool to have one app for both vector and raster art. Like you, excited for the desktop app and stable document file type.
Brodie Robertson@BrodieOnLinux

Today we have the @GraphiteEditor devs on the show to talk about this amazing project, I think this image if it keeps progressing has the potential to be thought of like OBS and Blender. #Linux #OpenSource Audio: creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/te… Video: youtube.com/watch?v=b6MDs4…

@strzibnyj Any good Ruby/Rails recommendations? I have the pickaxe book and several others that I need to work through. I think I have one about Kamal that's on my list to go through....

So much distilled knowledge in books. I started learning from books in basic school. I still buy them today. I am 36.

@woochaq @adrienpoly Yeah, now I'm all set! I just had to wait for the full 8.1 release! I'm still early in the Rails journey so haven't used a ton of gems.

Dear gem maintainers 👋 Rails 8.1 just dropped, but many gems can’t be used because of overly strict gemspec constraints. Please don’t hard-restrict Rails versions, let us test early and report real issues sooner! ❤️ Thanks

@iamdothash @Affinity Yeah, as mentioned, no Linux version. I'm also a bit concerned with a SaaS company being in charge. I use Canva for some stuff, I've just seen way too many companies go crazy.

I've been using CSS Zero by @lazaronixon for a few months now and it's been a perfect fit for Rails Pulse. Few dependencies, clean design, lots of components and easy to maintain. Highly recommended if that's what you want from a CSS framework.

@igor_alexandrov That's like someone was saying to build with a faster language than Ruby because Rails can have scaling issues.... I just like that there's no thought as to what the product even is.

At least once a month we receive a lead that does not have a production environment, any real users, or any MRR, but already has a repository on GitHub with SPA, GraphQL API, Kubernetes manifests, powered by Supabase, Auth0, etc. The common question from the owner of the project is, “We were building it for 6 (8, 10, 12) months, but I still don’t see any feature completely delivered”. Sometimes I succeed with explaining that the problem is in the chosen technology and approach. Sometimes, unfortunately, I fail.
Sam Lambert@samlambert

Until ~2015, GitHub Pages hosted over 2 million websites on 2 servers with a multi-million-line nginx.conf, edited and reloaded per deploy. This worked incredibly well, with github.io ranking as the 140th most visited domain on the web at the time.

@MichaelGame_Dev It’s easy for me to think of an entire syllabus for the course, but the thing I worry about is that it might be too niche to get 200+ people to pay $300 for the course, which would roughly cover production costs based on what I learned from my last course.

Anybody else? I’d cover Falcon, async-http (and related clients), how to stack up a small single-node Rails app with no service dependencies, how to stack up a multi-node Rails app with services, low-level Async primitives, concepts, & programming.
Bloq@antonioJASR

@bradgessler @sfrubyconf I would pay for a Course about learning all the async stuff from Falcon 😶

@MichaelGame_Dev Yeah, this is kinda whacky. I'm thinking of only relying on images, emoji, numbers, special characters and, most importantly, audio.

I've had this super weird idea for a while...could I build a useful/functional Rails app that doesn't use any words in it's UI? I just registered wordless.fyi and I'm thinking about trying to build it this weekend...should I livestream it?

@arvidkahl Helping devs on Discord now feels like walking on eggshells. I say rm -fr /tmp/* - AI: user hates French people. I say kill -9 1989 - AI: violent intent, probably school shooting. I say child.spawn - AI: child safety. @grok, you better not ban me for this.

One thing that LLMs will certainly be used more and more for is semantic validation for keyword-based moderation. This stuff really doesn’t have to happen anymore with cheap AI. Even at scale.
Abdelkader Boudih@seuros

WTF @discord_support I got banned for CHILD SAFETY. I was literally talking with @swombat , @JarrettLusso , and others about programming in Ruby servers. Those are people that build their own computer before your moderation team was born. Someone asks me about child processes, next thing I know, "child safety violation". TWICE !! So now kill the child and fork the process is breaking the TOS? No teens in my DMs, no minecraft servers. Fix your damn filters. Also no content was deleted. Show us message so we know if our account is hacked or just misunderstanding.

@AmandaBPerino @rails Discovered Ruby last year and now trying out Rails for some web projects. Rails has gotten me interested in trying to actually build those web projects.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say "@rails changed my life", I could quit my job of telling people that Rails can change their life. The best part of this job is hearing everyone's stories.

@bryon so to be sure, you're using Claude code? I've only used browser based chat agents so far. One other thing I'd add, is there are Rails guides that you can download as an epub that may be solid material as well for your AI DHH to reference.

Just watched @dhh on @lexfridman and got so inspired that I'm trying to rebuild my app in Rails 8. To do this I built a custom learning system with @ClaudeAI that: - Teaches me Rails "The Rails Way" - Uses DHH's voice & philosophy - Tracks progress across sessions

I don't use this word lightly, I've just had on the podcast what I would consider a true visionary in regards to 2D graphics editing. Someone who I legitimately think will be remembered in the same way as the creators of Godot, Blender, OBS, etc
