@AaronCSmith1 @CraigMahoney @S___Elliott It made an impression on me when I read it in 5th grade. Reflecting on it as an adult, I wonder if Puzo included it b/c it was a rumor about someone famous in 1940s Hollywood Frank Sinatra was seeing. (IIRC Fontaine is rumored to be loosely based on Sinatra.)

@CraigMahoney @S___Elliott How the fuck after many readings of the book have I forgotten Vagina Chick? Maybe it was just so bad, I’ve repressed it 😂😂🤷

@CraigMahoney @S___Elliott I'd add Peter Benchley's Jaws. And the Johnny Fontaine-big vagina gal subplot is like the Hooper-Elaine Brody affair subplot Spielberg wisely cut out in Jaws.

@S___Elliott I thought excising that was wise, and pretty much the equivalent of removing the whole Vegas subplot of Johnny Fontaine and the girl with the giant vagina Sonny was banging from The Godfather.

Statement to @FoxNews on the absences via Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL): “I am frustrated. It’s ridiculous that 16 members of the Senate aren’t here to vote today. We have crazy lines at TSA. TSA workers aren’t getting paid and 16 senators aren’t here to vote. I’ve been trying to get No Budget No Pay done since I got up here. Politicians in both parties keep stopping it. TSA isn’t getting paid. Congress isn’t doing its job and shouldn’t get paid. People need to show up.”

BREAKING: A procedural vote in the Senate to fund all of DHS (without ICE reforms) has just failed again by a vote of 47-37. Senator Fetterman (D-PA) was the only Dem to vote yes. Lots of absences on both sides today. House left town yesterday. 5 week DHS shutdown continues.

The irony is straight-up thermonuclear meltdown levels. Hillary Clinton bankrolls the filthy Steele Dossier scam to frame Trump. Then slithers onto a podcast and publicly brands Tulsi Gabbard a “Russian asset” like some cheap third-rate McCarthy knockoff. Fast-forward: Tulsi is DNI, rips the classification stamps off, declassifies the damning docs, and slaps DOJ with a criminal referral PACKED with receipts...no redactions, no mercy. The exact woman they smeared as the Kremlin puppet is now the one holding the torch to the bonfire they built. The architects of the “Russian asset” lie are getting roasted by the woman they tried to bury with it. You literally cannot script this level of poetic, savage justice. Karma didn’t just knock...it brought a flamethrower. (article below)

Yes, we dress like this for every anniversary, not just our twenty seventh. Barry opts for nudity, predictably enough.

The US also has detailed preparations for invading Canada. Every major military has detailed preparations for many possible contingencies against every other major military. That's part of the job. This isn't news.

Breaking: Pentagon officials have made detailed preparations for deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran, multiple sources tell CBS News. The military has also held meetings to prepare for how to handle the possible detention of Iranian soldiers cbsnews.com/news/trump-adm…

An important factor in the Hormuz situation is that under maritime law Iran is not "allowed" to close the strait, doing so is an act of war by Iran against the flags of the ships attacked or interdicted, and the US is not responsible or at fault for Iran's actions.

I have spent a good part of my career just getting people to believe this was actually happening. Now we are here. With 15 drones, you can lose roughly 1/4 of the B-52 force as it sits idle on the ground. This was always the most concerning scenario. Time to move to hardening. Just a matter of time now till we learn the hard way.
Hey, Dave!@davegreenidge57

Barksdale AFB was hit by multiple waves of drones over a week’s time. The base houses numerous nuclear weapons.

thinking a little more abstractly, the US has the option of escalating massively just from the air probably we are not because (1) we prefer iran not further escalate inasmuch as it might wrt gulf infra, and (2) we don't want to totally wreck the country x.com/icpolicy/statu…
icpolicy@icpolicy

@polphiloecon @AlexGodofsky @eigenrobot I know you've already said that infrastructure is irrelevant to warmaking capacity, but perhaps you could explain how their military could continue to function without oil, electricity, roads, or even food and water for that matter?

probably related to marine deployment and will (i'd guess it's more likely than not) probably involve grabbing gulf islands and maybe iranian coastal regions; maybe nuke grabs novice take and not even originally but bears repeating since i expect endless discourse about land war
