@iDuckFilms Glitch/Gooseworx would have gotten to tell the story they wanted to tell AND would get a lot of money that could be used for future projects, and fans of the IP would get a lot more content. The AU version could have lots of side adventures and new overarching mysteries. (2/2)

@iDuckFilms After the last episode of TADC, I'd honestly like to see Glitch license the IP to another company to let them produce an AU series. The concept could easily work as a much longer-running show, and it would be the best of all worlds for everybody. (1/2)

Glitch Productions comics have huge amounts of wasted potential that I wished they realized they were sitting out on. Both the TADC manga and the MD comic are retellings of the story, while I feel it would have worked out a lot better if the comics told new stories instead.

@ExitTheIllusion @adultswim My theory is still that they DID produce seasons 4 and 5 and they're going to premiere every single episode of those seasons other than the last two on April Fool's Day. There is some precedent for it; back when the first season premiered, they released it all in one day.

@KaylaSaysMore I'd love to see a publisher try to publish All the Young Dudes without filing the serial numbers off. They'd get sued, but there's more of a grey area to that kind of thing than people think; there's genuinely a nonzero chance that it would survive the challenge.

@artwithinpod I actually agree that it feels kind of weird, but that's actually a plus in my opinion; the "uncanniness" makes it more interesting.

against all odds, I was fully unprepared for just how off-putting and uncomfortable this would be to watch. something about seeing such a classically-crafted, iconic film series translated into the aesthetics of a modern HBO prestige streamer show just feels uncanny valley wrong.

@emeraldappul I wish this was available in English. They did have some of the early YouTube videos available with English subtitles, but then they stopped subtitling them and none of the Amy Malu stuff has been in English since.

@LockandKeyHyena They'd get a lot of backlash for it, but realistically AI is already pretty close to good enough that they could produce the movie one way and then just run it through an AI to effectively put either an animated or live-action filter over it.

at this point theyre gonna start releasing disney movies concurrently like pokemon games. animated version and live action version. and you have to buy them both at full price

@lingeriegoat @MagmaSlasher @PyschopathTakes @Nepsuka To be fair, as an adaptation, an anime will usually make at least *some* changes from the manga. You could look at the translation as itself being another level of adaptation; from that perspective, some changes would be expected there, too.

Seeing sugio for the 40th time in the same conversation makes you want to change it. But you cant do that. The author chose those words. Its not yours to change.

Once you learn a little bit of Japanese you realize a lot of official subtitles is not translated correctly.

@Authw8 If what you're doing is supposed to be part of the same canon as the original, I suppose I'd agree that it should always be respectful. But an AU that goes in a completely different direction without worrying about that at all can sometimes be the most interesting of all.

i feel like this opinion is almost reactionary at this point but i do feel like new entries into a franchise have a semi-sacred obligation to respect the original as well as respect the preferences of existing fans. if you're doing something original, you should make whatever you want, but adaptations and sequels should come from a place of respect for what came before. even if what came before was kind of stupid. if it's that bad, why are you making a follow-up? but what you see instead is that studios only want to fund existing IPs and creators don't want to be restricted, so you get sequels that don't care at all about the tradition they're pulling from. imo this is a shitty, exploitative thing to do. you're taking advantage of fans and turning them into a semi-captive audience for whatever you think is cool. it pollutes the commons.

Back when the Big 5 of Hollywood was the Big 6 due to Disney and 20th Century Fox originally being separate from each other, MGM used to be part of the group.

@CigsMake It's not just movie theatres; chain businesses pretty much in general went from more "fun" designs to ones that were just bland.

Movie Theatres in the 1990s often curated an experience that featured vibrant, maximalist designs with large sculptural elements, neon accents, and futuristic themed food stations. Today’s movie theatres dont quite live up to that experience. May be one of the reasons why they are on the decline

@DoctorLemma It's true that someone putting it on an Adam West Batman video helped to make it popular, but I can't find anything saying the vocals were originally supposed to be a placeholder.

23 years ago, a Panamanian musician recorded a mumbled, gibberish placeholder vocal for a song. He planned to get back to it later to write actual lyrics, but the rough demo circulated online. Another internet user combined the audio with a looping video of actor Adam West dancing as Batman, which amplified the track into a full meme phenomenon. Seeing the massive viral reaction, the producers officially released the song with the original gibberish left completely intact. It became so popular that it made the top 20 on the official UK Singles Chart.

@AndreSegers Actually, I take the "only thing" part back; there would be other possibilities, just insanely unlikely ones. For example, opening up their IPs for the public to use however they want if they just pay some reasonable fee per copy would be pretty much the biggest win possible.

@AndreSegers Announce a hand-drawn animated movie in their classic style and he immediately gets more points than Iger. That's the only thing that can get an immediate win; otherwise I'd be reserving judgment for a while.
