Chinette Gallichan, a 35-year-old labor law attorney from Krugersdorp, was shot and killed on Monday morning outside the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices at the corner of Fox and Joubert streets in the Johannesburg CBD. The incident occurred at approximately 09:00 as Gallichan arrived for a case. She was working in the labor litigation department at Sibanye-Stillwater at the time of her death. Eyewitnesses say a male suspect approached her as she exited her vehicle and opened fire at close range before fleeing on foot and later escaping in a waiting getaway vehicle. Gallichan was reportedly representing a mining company in a dispute involving retrenched workers seeking compensation. Nothing was stolen, and early indications suggest the killing may have been a targeted hit.
