Highlander is an amazing film (forget the sequels ever happened). It's great. Very enjoyable. But let's be honest here. Christopher Lambert is a terrible actor. He was awful. The film was still good because nobody gave too much of a fuck back then as long as it was entertaining. So I'm personally pretty stoked for the remake with Henry Cavill because the man can act, he looks the part, and I'm guessing he's also a big fan of the original. I just really hope they don't go and Witcher it.

@therealmissjo @ZoeNope @SueM1tchell If only the UK had some kind of world-renowned intelligence agencies, like those portrayed in big budget movies, who could be tasked with tracking down, identifying and then delivering to justice these people-smuggling kingpins. Alas, no.

This is an incredible piece of journalism by the BBC and @SueM1tchell She has tracked down the identity of an Iraqi Kurd who appears to be responsible for a significant proportion of the people smuggling into the UK. He has boats and trucks and even advertises his services online and offline. He has remained unknown for years. But no more - now his name is revealed. There is no extradition treaty between Iraq and the UK but this man and his organisation should be found and prosecuted fully. The UK government should refuse to take a single migrant from Iraq until the government hands him over. And what has Keir Starmer been doing all this time, when he talks about โ€œsmashing the gangsโ€? Nothing. It has taken a gutsy BBC journalist to do his job.

This is a problem created by government through local authorities. There are significantly more visitors to Scotland now than there were 20 years ago, but practically zero new hotels or B&B accommodation has been constructed in that time due to planning policy. I live in one of Scotlands most popular tourist destinations and there has been a flat refusal on any accommodation applications by the long-standing Labour authority for two decades, just as they also have refused construction of workplaces and rural homes (whilst granting permission for thousands of Barratt-type homes on grade 1 arable) We have way more people yet no more facilities than we had in 1990.

What on earth is happening to hotel prices? I was looking at an impromptu couple of days on the motorcycle on the West Coast of Scotland. Prices for one person in fairly ordinary hotels were about ยฃ200-250 per night, midweek. And they were all that price. Who on earth can afford that?

@joeroganhq This would be great in the UK apart from the bit where the @NHSuk does not give patients their blood work at all. For all the talk of making government digital and bringing patient data into the future, simple things like blood tests are intentionally hidden by NHS gatekeepers.

@AllisonPearson That's not what anyone is wanting to happen, we want things to implode faster so we arrive at the election sooner and save the country. Under him they were likely to grind it out to the end as the impoverished stakeholder-cadavers of this gulag island looked on in misery.

I hate Starmer as much as the next person but the idea that his eviction will usher in a government prepared to take tough choices on welfare cuts, immigration, net zero and borders is for the birds. Labour are incapable of governing for the benefit of the British people.

@Glinner Most musical artists are complete lunatics nowadays. They're actually completely disinterested in politics and the wider world, so they get all their positions by quickly identifying with whichever 'views' are least likely to get them cancelled. They have no values, however.

@JohnSlinger If he can't handle fully-justified criticism of his sociopathic, tone-deaf, divisive leadership he shouldn't have conspired to oust Corbyn, put himself up for PM then hung on to the door knocker of No.10 by his fingernails through every scandal. All you need to do is walk, Keir.

One thing Iโ€™ve not heard much of in the debate about who should be Prime Minister of our country is the human being at the centre of this, & his family, & the effect of this on them all. The vitriol is off the scale. Show some humanity. People we disagree with are not enemies

@afneil @silverhorse555 They did it to themselves. Never, ever make the mistake of feeling sorry for them. They donโ€™t care about any of us, and everything they have done since coming to power has been to service interests other than those of the people who voted them in.

British Government in a shambles tonight. Nobody quite clear whoโ€™s in charge. Who would have thought Labour would be been even more useless than the Tories? Starmer living on borrowed time. Support ebbing away. But to what? Nobody knows. The world has rarely been more dangerous in modern times and we barely have a government.

I have confess Iโ€™m feeling a little sorry for Starmer. Heโ€™s been an awful PM and has to go. I donโ€™t think he understands that heโ€™s not up to the job. I think he thought he was destined to do something great, and yet he has neither vision nor qualities. I think heโ€™s reduced to a lost child tonight. theguardian.com/politics/2026/โ€ฆ

The problem is there isn't any money and unless a new prime minister can find some without borrowing more they will have no greater success than the current chap. The best they can do is offer some better explanations to an electorate disinclined to hear & then absorb the truth.

@HaydenHewitt I realised recently what changed here. Back in the days of Twitter (despite all the banning etc), if you followed a bunch of people and also browsed For You, you could see 1000 tweets a day from mutuals and randoms. Now X curate 100 posts and show just those posts to everyone.

It would appear X is embracing Facebook's idea of what a good algorithm should be whilst chasing the plan of becoming a Temu TikTok. I can't be the only person who misses forum communities and independence? Social media is corporate conformity. And yes, I'm a hypocrite for using it. I'm well aware.
