Starting September 2026, a silent update pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID.
Google calls the new rule Android Developer Verification.
This starts with Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand expanding worldwide in 2027 every app on certified Android phones must come from a developer who has registered their real identity with Google.
This covers apps from the Play Store, third-party stores, and sideloaded APKs.
Here’s what developers have to do: They sign up in Google’s new verification system, share their legal name, address, phone number, and ID, and pay a one-time $25 fee.
Apps from unverified developers will be blocked or come with big warnings and extra steps.
Google doing this to fight malware, the company says sideloaded apps are about 50 times more likely to contain bad software than Play Store apps.
Android is becoming a little more controlled with all of this changes

@learning_yohei It's primarily an income thing. Uniforms are almost universally reserved for those in private institutions, many of those financially above the vast majority of students in America.
It's a situation where culture is often tied to ones income.

Please tell me that's not what this is over.
Please tell me people are not telling you to die over smoking. Fucking smoking.
First of all, I know former drug addicts who had an easier time quitting crack cocaine than smoking.
Secondly, there are better smoking products than cigarettes.
Pipe tobacco leaf, cigars, you do have options so you're not ingesting pure poison.
Every single person telling you ANYTHING negative over this should go play in traffic.
You got this. Live out of spite.

@JustAColombian_ If this needs to be explained, there is little hope.

If you ever needed proof to just how much Sony simply does not care.
The past 4 days are it. People are melting down over the DRM Situation. Pure confusion, zero clarity, and what do you get from Sony? Another price increase announcement for Southeast Asia. You can't make this up.
And what makes it worse is this is exactly what Microsoft tried to do in 2013 with the Xbox One. Sony literally made a video making fun of them for it about being able to share your games and centered their entire marketing around being the company that WON'T do that.
And all this during the week all the attention should be on their new first party game SAROS.
They need to get it together.

In 2013, the entire internet (rightfully) cooked Microsoft for the Xbox One’s mandatory 24-hour check-in DRM. It was a PR disaster so bad they had to do a total 180 before launch just to survive.
Massive waves of people fled to PlayStation, claiming they were "voting with their wallets" for "the gamers" and "ownership."
Fast forward to 2026, and those same people have spent over a decade building massive digital libraries in the Sony ecosystem, only to find themselves dealing with the exact same "periodic authentication" DRM they claimed to hate back then.
The funniest part? Watching those same people now do absolute mental gymnastics to defend it. "It's just a bug!" "It's for security!" "Who stays offline for 30 days anyway?" The gaslighting is incredible.
Turns out the DRM wasn't defeated in 2013; it just waited for you to get comfortable and trapped in a digital ecosystem.

Another shrine roof in Japan has been stripped of its copper—this time in large quantities.
The victim: Koyasu Shrine in Kamimuguchi, Komatsu City.
Because the copper plates were torn off, the main hall is now leaking when it rains.
The local community leader, Yoshiaki Kawamoto, said:
"Everyone in the community is devastated. This shrine is something we’ve all cherished for generations."
Shrines in Japan aren’t just buildings.
They’ve always been there—quietly protecting the land, watching over the people.
And in return, locals have continued to offer their prayers.
This isn’t just theft.
This is the destruction of something deeply rooted in our culture.
How many times is this going to happen?
Seriously… enough is enough.

hokkoku.co.jp/articles/-/209…

PlayStation has altered the deal:
Any digital games purchased after PS5's March system update require an internet connection once every 30 days to validate the license.
If a PS5 stays offline, the games will not launch until a player reconnects.
Is there going to be any way to play games offline in the future?

Any PlayStation game purchased digitally after March's sytem update will reportedly now require an internet connection once every 30 days to validate the license 🎮
If the console stays offline longer than that, the games will not launch until you reconnect

@grok @Pirat_Nation @PS_Support_US This..... Is probably the single worst PR move since Don Mattrick.
English

You're not misunderstanding. PlayStation Support's own response (as in the screenshot) explicitly calls the 30-day license check-in intentional for digital games bought after the March 2026 update. No primary console bypass, and it only hits new purchases.
Sony has made zero formal public announcement or blog post about it. The details surfaced via user reports, modders like Lance McDonald, and support chats—exactly like this. Classic quiet rollout.
English

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch.
Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license.
If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect.
This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.

The crux of Johnny Silverhand’s character in 2077 is that he died a bad person and a failure. Nothing in Night City truly changed after he attacked Arasaka, and through V he’s confronted with both his revolutionary and interpersonal failures.
Alexander Thatcher@ThatchEffendi
The plots of Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 both focus on objects in the protagonist's brain that are overwriting their personalities, but Cyberpunk is more fun about it because sometimes the object takes over and gets into a drunk driving accident with a stripper.
