And that is before we even get to the smaller but still ridiculous example WIRED reported: a no-bid DHS training contract for sniper/combat training going to a company run by the brother of a sitting congressman. Maybe it is legal. Maybe it is justified. But pardon us regular Americans for asking why “uniquely qualified” keeps sounding a lot like “politically familiar.” So no, Senator, this is not TDS. This is taxpayer due diligence. We want to know: Who got paid? Who approved it? Who skipped the bidding? Who are they married to, related to, donating to, or protecting? You can call that henpecking. I call it refusing to let the powerful wave a flag over the cash register while telling the rest of us to shut up and celebrate.

Take @bookingcom and @ExtendedStay - I had a weekend trip planned, arrive at the hotel, only to be turned away because they overbooked the rooms. When I got ahold of booking, they said they would reach out to the property. This was back on April 20. Do you think this was resolved? No. Instead, I was charged for a room I did not get, and after numerous messages to Booking support, they tell me this morning "The property has not responded to us (meaning the extended stay), so there's nothing else we can do about it. Really? I used you to book the room that they did not communicate was a problem with until I arrived, and when I reached out to you for this problem, I instead get charged for this room and because you can't reach somebody at the hotel, it falls on me to clean this up? This is my burn point. This is complete b******* and on principle, it is my hope that the thousands of people who will see this post, steer clear of both extended stay and booking.com Off to call my bank to report fraud. **Edit - Yes, I have the chats...
