The same street, 70 years apart. Hale Road, Walton, Liverpool. It looked immaculate in the 1950s compared to today. Why did people stop caring about their communities?

We no longer have a "special relationship" with Britain. We have decided Japan is our new BFF.

@nxd1979 Can we all give the girl a break please? She took a tour of an historic city and asked a question because she wanted to learn. Dresden is a minor detail of the war and not covered in most US high schools. She may have been wondering if it was the US/UK or the Soviets.

Back in 2014 I was on a walking tour of Dresden and our guide kept referring to the firebombing destroying this or that building until an American girl in her 20s raised her hand to ask "sorry, who firebombed Dresden?" and the group fell so silent you could hear a pin drop

Dresden was rebuilt surprisingly recently

@armchairactual @stats_feed Nah, most folk I know in the UK love the US. We've just currently got a shitty government that nobody likes. Can't get rid of them soon enough.

@TheRitualDiv @Vocatusk @TheNameofWar 1. Citing losses doesn't contradict the fact of high standards (spam vs skill). 2. A third of Russia's troops on the frontline are local 'civil defence units' from Donbass. 3. Azov, 'Ukraine's most elite brigade', was completely wiped out in Mariupol by 'civil defence units'.

@Ragnar_Rough @revenant_MMXX It got the reputation during the second World War from American soldiers who had arrived from the land of plenty, to a country that was crushed by rationing. Rationing ended in 1954 and many foodstuff were affected by rationing for decades. British food is not like this anymore.

@TheRitualDiv @revenant_MMXX I don't really know, but the fact is that British food did get that reputation in the fifties and sixties. Which is an enormous shame, because their high end food prior to WW1 supposedly surpassed the French kitchen.

@Vocatusk @TheNameofWar VDV standard is always extremely high, even the most pro-Western sources wouldn't be dumb enough to say otherwise. VDV training is some of the toughest and most physically demanding in the Russian military, and VDV to begin with, was almost entirely a contract/professional branch

@Ragnar_Rough @revenant_MMXX OK so you're defending it based on the fact it's peasant food. That's fine. I actually agree with you. But what traditional British food (that isn't a yank stereotype) is actually that disgusting?

@TheRitualDiv @revenant_MMXX I'll agree that øllebrød is disgusting. My grandparents made eat it out of tradition, but it's poor peoples food.
