@Chopsmath I believe many Lutherans want unity, but Luther is one of the most divisive figures in history. It seems even he began to see the problem later in his life.

Reformation Day is coming up. As a former Protestant, I’d like to point something out: Never in 508 years has any reformer laid out a positive, coherent, and unifying alternative. It’s a long protest. 🪧

I went to a church service for the first time last weekend, along with two vigils for Charlie Kirk. I was raised secular and I’m an atheist, but when he was killed, I felt a strong desire to be around people like I never had before. At the service, the appeal became clear. What must it feel like to go through life never truly alone — to feel connected to someone who loves you and to believe you serve a higher purpose? It hit me then just how alone I have been my entire life. From an early age, I was disconnected from everyone. I became depressed as a child, and that turned into severe depression in adolescence. I went into self-destruct mode and my life went off the rails. But even after I got my life on a better track in my twenties, and developed a relationship with my parents, I still kept people at a distance. In church, seeing people so happy being connected to each other and to their God, it became apparent that this is likely a big reason conservatives tend to have better mental health than liberals. I can’t know how my life would have gone had I been raised differently, but I do wonder about it. I’m skeptical that I’ll suddenly start believing in something I’ve never believed in. But people who grow up with values like family, faith, and community — and keep them — seem to be much better off. That’s something worth advocating for, and something I will support going forward.

IF you study your Bible you don’t become Catholic, Orthodox, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, or Seventh Day Adventist. You become a Bible believing born again Christian abiding in the doctrine of Christ, who has a Trust and Faith in Jesus and His finished work on the Cross!

Most LCMS members never talk about ELCA things. And the only LCMS pastors that I hear running down the ELCA are the boomers and older. Most of the younger guys don’t even talk about them. But, synods may come and go but the Augsburg/evangelical/western catholic church will always remain.

The ELCA may have more people on their rolls than the LCMS but average worship attendance tells a different story. In 2023 the ELCA reported 522,000. That same year, the LCMS reported 800,000.

@ThePholkswagen @Implicitbiasrad @brysongray I agree we can ask for prayer, again, earnestly though, your premise in your response to original post was that she’s closer to God. But we are now co heirs with Christ in the Kingdom. What sortof inheritance does she have that is greater than ours which is at the side of Jesus?

@ZachSample93 @Implicitbiasrad @brysongray God doesn't need help. We need help. Intercession by Mary and other holy people is simply the same as asking for prayers by other people. James 5:16 The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. So that's why we pray for intersession

@Implicitbiasrad @brysongray Question, and I mean this earnestly - Why would God need help? What hindrance exists for God to not be fully aware and knowledgeable of our need for repentance that Mart would need to advocate for us? And if she can advocates for us, what does she know that he doesn’t know?

@brysongray Nope. Catholics recognize that the Virgin Mary was born without original sin, but is still a human. She is simply mother to Jesus, and we can request that she, being closer to God the father than we are, can advocate for us to the ultimate power, God the fa5er almighty.

BREAKING: A visibly impaired #PopeFrancis appears at the window of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome for the first time in over a month. He is being discharged for at least two months of recovery to his Vatican Apartment. Even this appearance seems a major strain on the Pontiff. 🙏

@RuralLutheran I thoroughly enjoy teaching new members the importance and expectation of membership and the authority of the church in that membership. Makes people a little uncomfortable being willing to submit but ultimately shows the beauty of the heavenly authority the local church has.

I so deeply love teaching Adult Instruction for new parishioners. I've got a group of new folks that are absolutely blown away by the Means of Grace and the rich treasure they have discovered in Lutheran theology.

Feeling unhinged tonight… If you’re willing to look into your child’s eyes, tell them their life was worthless, loveless, and meaningless before being born. Claiming superior morality may not be the right call.
