I like serial commas, bold patterns, advice columns, long walks, museums, menus, learning about a lot of things and teaching about some. Same @bsky. She/her.

It's also worth noting that going 36 mph in a 25 mph zone is going to be significantly more dangerous for vulnerable people, whether kids or seniors. And since 25 mph is pretty standard for residential areas, speeding their is putting kids and seniors at risk.

"Results show that the average risk of severe injury for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle reaches 10% at an impact speed of 16 mph, 25% at 23 mph, 50% at 31 mph, 75% at 39 mph, and 90% at 46 mph." aaafoundation.org/research/impac…

I know DCPD doesn’t make the law but DC’s camera system is predatory. If someone is reckless or drunk driving, sure they should be off the road. But people going 36 in a 25 are not endangering anyone.

Hello my name is Alex Goldman and I used to host the Reply All podcast. A lot of people liked that show. Now I make @hyperfixedpod which if you liked reply all you’d probably like well. The thing is that a lot of people who liked Reply All don’t know my new show exists.

Fun random bits from this story: - One Metro diehard with managed to buy two old blue-vinyl seats from a Metro railcar, direct from WMATA. - Zachary Schrag, who wrote the book on Metro's history, has one of Metro's iconic red hexagonal floor tiles. He uses it as a coaster.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

For many, Metro is just a tool to get to work. But for a legion of self-proclaimed transit nerds, Metro is an object of fascination. They collect its memorabilia, watch board meetings for fun, and celebrate it as a local icon. For @51stnews: 51st.news/metro-annivers…

@maustermuhle is there a supplier somewhere that just sells the tiles? I'd love a bunch of metro coasters for house parties and stuff

I’m excited to share that I’m joining the Department of Psychology at Villanova University as an Assistant Teaching Professor! I will spend the rest of my career repaying the kindness I received as a student at @VillanovaU to my students. I’m thrilled to return home! 💙

Everyone with clear moral consciousness must speak out, fight back, and resist attempts to rig our elections and militarize our cities. We cannot normalize it or shrink from it. I’m inspired by the thousands of Americans saying “hell no” right now, from DC to TX to California.

@himbopresident @offbeatorbit For me, it’s because the reels expire, so I don’t want to miss something if I’m only spending limited time. And the feed isn’t time-stamped and bounces, so I can never see what I want to see in the moment.

The fascinating thing about the change in Instagram user behavior is that nobody seems to be able to articulate how or why they shifted from grid posts for friends to Reel consumption and often they express dissatisfaction with this transition
Wendy Davis@wendyndavis

.@Meta says most time on FB and Insta is spent watching videos, and only 7% of time on Insta & 17% on FB involves consuming content from friends. Company argues @FTC hasn't proven it monopolizes 'personal social networking services market' b/c such market doesn't exist

After her latest round of vaccines, Ava always takes longer naps than usual, which gave me a full three-hour stretch to write this afternoon. Haven't had that luxury in a year.

Imma speak from the heart about the pointlessly destructive attacks on Harvard and other universities. I may be a bit lost for how to find the right words, but I do hope you'll get a sense of what I'm trying to say.

@dapati @UHLocal25 Thanks for asking! My recommendation is to reschedule your work dinner to St. Anselm, Pastis, or Le Diplomate, who have union elections in the coming weeks! Tell workers you support them. You can pick up pro-union stickers at our office or I can drop em off at restaurant!

@UHLocal25 @amanduhgomez What's the best way to support workers at Rasika right now? I have an upcoming work dinner scheduled at Rasika West End. Are workers asking folks to boycott, or to come and dine (and tip big, of course...)? Thank you!
